You might think the media brings the hot takes, but it gets hotter deep inside the team trucks at the races. Decisions and opinions come hard and fast after Anaheim: if success doesn’t come within a few weeks of the opener, you’ve got real problems. It’s quite interesting to watch the ebbs and flows of team sports throughout a long regular season, with streaks and slumps for all. Monster Energy AMA Supercross is more clear cut. Most riders are what they are by the fifth round, which means just over one month into a season, the worth and validation is being judged harshly by employers and sponsors. After five races this season, Eli Tomac, Jason Anderson, and Chase Sexton were the fastest guys. They were on the right track. Cooper Webb and Ken Roczen were trending the wrong way, and at that point it was time for major changes.
