one for the aussies
For two-time AMA 250 Pro Motocross Champion Jett Lawrence, the 2022 FIM Motocross of Nations offered him the chance to make a couple of career debuts. The big RedBud race marked not only his first showing on a 450, but his first appearance for Team Australia. The 19-year-old proved he will be a force on the bigger bike, winning the Open class overall ahead of his Honda teammate Chase Sexton of Team USA, and also becoming only the second Australian in the event’s history to win an MXoN moto outright, joining Chad Reed (’01 in Belgium and ’11 in France) in that very exclusive club. With his older brother Hunter solid as the team’s 250 rider and Mitchell Evans notching a first-moto fifth in the MXGP class, the Australians ended up on the podium, tying their nation’s best MXoN finish ever with third overall (also 2011).
