You’d be forgiven for being a bit confused when it comes to the FIM World Supercross Championship, which recently kicked off its third, or maybe fourth, iteration of the series in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. There was another WSX series that ran in the mid-’90s, with riders like Jeff Emig and Robbie Reynard winning titles. There was also the combined AMA/FIM World Supercross Championship that was thrown together in the midst of an early ’00s civil war between the AMA and the supercross promoter (then known as Clear Channel) which also featured a couple visits to Vancouver. Things seemed to settle down once Feld Motor Sports took over supercross… Until 2021. That’s when they finally dropped the FIM sanction and the “World” part of their U.S.-based series after twenty years, mostly due to the FIM’s inane drug testing penalties/politics.
