Reason For Being
The latest incarnation of the FIM World Supercross Championship concluded in November with Honda Genuine Honda Racing’s Ken Roczen as its champion. By far the biggest name in the two-round pilot series—Eli Tomac only rode the first round in Great Britain as a wild card participant, then skipped the second round in Australia—Roczen’s victory was expected. That’s not to say it was easy, as he had to overcome a flat tire in Australia that opened the door for MotoConcepts Racing teammates Vince Friese and Justin Brayton, but then they went down together in the last main/moto, sparking yet another controversy involving the rough-riding Friese. You can read all about that in Steve Matthes’ report on the “pilot season” of this new entity in this month's Another World feature.
Then there’s the matter of who exactly owns supercross—both the word and the right to call it a world championship.
