
Reason For Being
When it came time to pick our 2020 Racer X Rider of the Year, we had plenty of candidates to choose from. While the year in general has been a hot mess, the racing we’ve seen all over the world has been a welcome relief. Of course, no championship series went unaffected by the global coronavirus health crisis; every schedule in every sport was clobbered in the middle of March. Monster Energy AMA Supercross took nearly three months to get back on track, Lucas Oil Pro Motocross didn’t start until the middle of August, and MXGP was parked from early March to late summer. The Motocross of Nations in France didn’t happen, nor did the Monster Energy Cup. And for the first time since 1974, the Hangtown Motocross Classic was not on the schedule—nor were Unadilla, High Point, Southwick, and Budds Creek.
