With the unfortunate news of the demise of Joe Gibbs Racing MX (2008-2020), we decided to look back at the North Carolina-based team’s single best motorcycle race. On March 10, 2012, James Stewart and teammate Davi Millsaps survived near-hurricane conditions to finish first and second on their JGR Yamahas in the 450SX main event at Daytona International Speedway—the one place on the AMA Supercross/Pro Motocross map that also hosts stock car racing, where the whole JGR program was rooted. It was also the last race Stewart would win with the team, as he was about to leave the squad completely. Millsaps, on the other hand, would finish second overall in the final 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross standings, the best championship finish in the 12-year run of Joe Gibbs Racing.
