SPLIT-RAILING
The 2025 SMX World Championship Playoffs got underway at zMAX Dragway outside of Charlotte, NC, and from the split-lane start to finish in Moto 1, Honda HRC Progressive’s Jett Lawrence (1) was in control. Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac (3) gave pursuit early, until a spill handed runner-up honors over to Red Bull KTM’s Chase Sexton (4). No one knew at the time that this would be the final race of the event, as a severe storm hit the area, bringing heavy rain and more than an hour’s worth of lightning that led to an early conclusion of the event due to public safety protocols. Lawrence would go on to win his third straight SMX crown, as well as his third straight million-dollar bonus.
