Kevin Windham and I are sitting inside the infield announcer’s tower at Loretta Lynn’s. A lifetime ago he was the top prospect graduating from this race, winning every moto in both of his classes over the last three years of his amateur career. From there, Windham would go on to a long and prosperous professional career that would stretch nearly twenty years, winning dozens of races and building a huge fanbase with his style and charisma. In fact, just a few weeks earlier Kevin got the call from the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame informing him that he would be inducted with the class of 2024. When I congratulate him on this honor, he humbly deflects and says, “Yes, it’s a really cool thing for me and my family, and all of the people who helped me out along the way, but I feel like I was never really the guy, you know?”
