As the summer comes to a close and the and a majority of local and national race series hold their final events of the year and kids are shipped off to school, September brings the opportunity for one last hurrah for motocross racers. A number of tracks and events look to this coveted spot on the race calendar to get racers and their families back out to the track before bikes start going into winter storage. The Racer X Maine Event, held in Lyman, Maine, is starting to look like a new fall classic for those of us in the Northeast.
Some say autumn is the best time of year for riding. Summer’s blistering heat has faded, and fall hasn’t quite arrived. That opens a three-week window in September where temperatures are ideal for everything outside, motocross included. Once upon a time, the outdoor nationals ran well into this period, but now AMA Pro Motocross ends before Labor Day. As a result, several premier events around the country vie for their local rider bases and race fans.
