The 2023 version of Anaheim 1 launched a beautiful celebration for Eli Tomac. The living legend proved he’s still got it by leading the race, crashing, and then coming back to win. Add to that another living-legend-that-still-has-it, impresario photographer Simon Cudby, catching an incredible shot of Tomac levitating in mid crash, above the Anaheim tunnel jump, which we put on the cover of this magazine. Tomac won round two and then number crunching began. It wasn’t just Tomac against the 2023 field, but Tomac against all-time, eventually passing luminaries like Ricky Carmichael and James Stewart to become the second-winningest rider in supercross history. In a polarized world, Tomac was one of the few things everyone could agree on. He’s been part of our lives for so long, and seeing him win races just feels right.
