50 Years of Pro Motocross: 2011 50 Years of Pro Motocross 2011 Even though this year was much of the same as the last, with another Ryan winning both championships (this time it was Villopoto) 2011 packed a lot more action into the season than the results let on.

5 Minutes With... Mitch Payton 5 Minutes With... Mitch Payton What a night for Pro Circuit’s Mitch Payton this past Saturday at Anaheim Stadium as his team went 1-2-3 in the 250 class. It was a fantastic way to start the year for the powerhouse Southern California house of horsepower and one that I’m sure Mitch and his entire team put a lot of work into to make sure it happened. The team just shows up, year after year since 1991, and no matter who’s on the bike, the rider performs
Observations: Anaheim 1 Observations Anaheim 1 The first race of the 2011 season kicked off and the first of what is 29 races (17 SX and 12 MX) has started. The series kicked off at the traditional Angel Stadium at Anaheim (can you imagine kicking the SX series anywhere else? Remember when they went to Orlando? What was that all about?) and we were set for some exciting racing.
Racer X ReduX: Anaheim 1 Fly Racing Racer X Redux Anaheim 1 With all of this hype for the first round of Monster Energy Supercross, we expected to see the battle to end all battles at Anaheim 1. We didn’t get it. Each main event featured just one pass for the lead. But that’s a good thing—just more questions to answer for the next race.
Between The Motos: Kevin Crowther Between the Motos Kevin Crowther The goal of Feld, FIM, and AMA is working together to see what we can do to grow the sport.
The Moment: Anaheim 1 Mips Protection The Moment Anaheim 1 There are decisive moments in every race—the holeshot, the pass for the lead, the big crash—that are easy to follow. Other moments are less obvious in their meaning, ones where the bigger picture is exposed or where an underlying story plays out, giving us a glimpse of something more detailed. This is one of those moments.

5 Minutes With… Grant and Millsaps 5 Minutes With… Grant and Millsaps Josh Grant and Davi Millsaps have essentially traded teams, with one moving from a Honda to a Yamaha, and the other doing the opposite. Grant came through Honda’s amateur program before landing a pro deal on the Factory Connection Honda squad (known today as GEICO Powersports Honda). But when it came time to find a 450 ride for 2009, he went with Joe Gibbs Racing and Yamaha. After two seasons with that team--a great one in 2009 and a bad one in 2010—Grant is back on Honda, this time with the full factory squad, American Honda Racing.

But the kid has been winning GPs since he was 15, and just waiting for the AMA pro age minimum to either drop back down to 16 so he could race supercross. The age limit has dropped, and Roczen is here—ready to race in the stadiums before heading back home for the GPs in the spring.

Still Stewart’s Show? Still Stewart’s Show? Maybe our expectations were too high in the first place. When James Stewart first burst onto the pro scene, the sport wanted him to put it on his back and launch it straight into the mainstream. The exploits of Jeremy McGrath, Ricky Carmichael and Travis Pastrana had pulled in fans from all angles, and just when so many new eyes were checking things out, Stewart, the most perfect package of all, hit the big time.

250 West Preview 250 West Preview The list of winners in the 450 class is staggering. There are fifteen guys that know how to win races! The 250 class is a completely different story and that's what makes it such an awesome class to watch. Looking through the west coast entry list I can only come up with two guys that have won supercross races: Josh Hansen and Broc Tickle. That definitely gives those two guys an advantage going into the opener, but lets have a look at the guys they are going to have to fight with for the top step of the podium this year.

Chad Reed - The Gamble Chad Reed - The Gamble What makes a champion tick? What makes a person rise up above everyone else to be the best in the world at something, be it checkers, chess or supercross racing? We’ve all seen the most talented one, the one who had it come easy but could not reach the heights many had predicted. We’ve established that to be a hero in anything, you cannot just rely on talent alone, you have to have a drive to be the best, a desire to put in the work and just the right amount of cockiness and arrogance to know that you can’t be beaten. These things make up the cocktail of a champion.

Riding for Red Bull KTM on the still-new and developing KTM 350SXF, Andrew isn’t picked by many to be in the front this coming weekend (well except for that one guy on the Pulpmx Show who said he will win) but perhaps he should be.
