In a team press release released this morning, it was revealed that Martin Davalos has been dealing with Epstein-Barr. Following the race, Davalos told Racer X’s Holly Wingler that he’s been “dealing with a little bit of some health issues and I just wanted to save my whole energy for the main event.” It’s now been determined the illness was Epstein-Barr. The release did not say if he would miss any time or not. We will have more as it becomes available. Here is what Davalos had to say in the release:
“I’ve been struggling with my health since January. I figured that, since I broke my foot, it was my body trying to adjust again. I didn’t have any adrenaline or fire in me, which isn’t me. I went to the doctor to get checked out and found out that I have flare of Epstein-Barr. I’m just trying to get myself going again but I don’t want it to get worse. I’m struggling with my energy levels, and my adrenal glands aren’t working. I just wanted to save as much energy as I could for the main event. I got a good start, and my bike is awesome, but I’m just not on point.”
