On Track Scholarship Recipient
On Track Congratulates Scholarship Recipient Matthew Burkeen
After reviewing all of the scholarship letters and resumes that were sent in to On Track School, we would like to congratulate and welcome Matthew Burkeen. Matthew just completed his 9th grade year in the Academically Gifted Program at Athens Drive High School in Cary, North Carolina, and will be starting On Track as a 10th grade student. Matthew loves motocross, football and video games. He races a Yamaha in Schoolboy 1, Schoolboy 2, and 250B, and his favorite racer is Chad Reed, as his resume stated! Matthew submitted an awesome letter explaining the challenges of traveling, training, and trying to maintain his goal of a 3.5 GPA. As he expressed, this struggle was getting harder and harder as his racing goals were growing. Unlike many, he actually put racing on the side and mised many of the nationals so that he did not fall behind in school or miss too many days. This stood out to the educators at On Track and know that with Matthew’s educational goals and On Track’s challenging yet flexible educational program, he will be able to reach all of his goals - both on and off the track!
This is On Track’s second scholarship recipient, with a goal of having many more. Over the next year, On Track will continue to collect donations from riders, industry CEO’s, and use EBAY auctions to raise funds, in hopes to award even more scholarships for the 2012-2013 school year. On Track will also research federal grants to find more opportunities to fund the scholarship program.
