Jeff Spencer Tour de France Webcast

  • Jeff Spencer Tour de France Webcast

He won four supercross main events and came within just 13 points of winning the 2008 Monster AMA Supercross Championship. Last summer, Kevin Windham, one of the most popular and beloved racers in modern motocross, was on the verge of announcing his retirement from the sport. However, during the early winter months, he decided to give it another go. As part of his commitment to be all he could be in 2008, Kevin enlisted the help of an old friend and confidant, Dr. Jeff Spencer.

“Jeff Spencer is a great guy and a great trainer, and really much more than a trainer – obviously a friend, and everything, to me,” says Windham of the help and support Spencer provided him throughout the 2008 supercross series. “I’ll be honest with you, he leaves no stone unturned.”

His role in American motocross history well defined, Spencer was the original trainer to the stars of American motocross. A former Olympic cyclist, he began his work in the sport as a part of Team Honda in 1981. Within the span of just a few years, Spencer was working with riders like Johnny O’Mara, Mark Barnett, David Bailey, Broc Glover, Jeff Ward, Jeff Stanton, and more, all of whom helped make America the strongest and most dominant motocross nation the world had ever seen. After accomplishing what he wanted to in motocross, Spencer moved on to international cycling, where he eventually became a part of Lance Armstrong’s Tour de France-dominating machine. Often called “Dr. Magic” by the Postal and Discovery Channel cycling squads, Spencer was instrumental in helping those teams win an astonishing eight Tours de France.

Said Lance Armstrong in Every Second Counts: “Jeff is part doctor, part guru, part medicine man… we believed Jeff could fix any and all of our problems… While he fixed us physically, he also fixed us mentally… If you judged the most important man on the Postal team by the foot traffic in and out his door, then it was Jeff. Without him, we knew we’d never make it to Paris.”

That’s a pretty heavy testimonial from one of the greatest athletes of our time.

Which brings us to the 2008 Tour de France and Jeff Spencer’s extraordinary new project, BecomeYourOwnChampion.com.

“This is a brand-new project that I am proud to create as an effort to give back and share,” says Spencer. “I had the incredible fortune of being a medical staff member of the United States Postal Service and Discovery Channel Professional Cycling Teams winning an unprecedented eight Tours de France; seven by the legendary Lance Armstrong, and the eighth, by Spanish prodigy Alberto Contador.

“Those eight wins, however, were not by accident, but were the purposeful outcome of leading edge technology combined with ultimate human performance and superior strategic planning. And, I want to teach you the secrets we used during the Tour so you can become your own champion.

“The three week Tour is more than just the world’s most brutal sporting event. It’s the ultimate life clinic, exposing rider and staff to the absolute limit of what the mind and body can endure. The Tour, like life, is won by the individual and team that most successfully overcomes the formidable challenges the 21-day, 2,212-mile event presents as the Postal and Discovery teams did eight times.

“My goal with the BecomeYourOwnChampion podcasts is to share with you the pivotal experiences and lessons learned during my eight winning Tours so you can learn and apply these same proven strategies to become your own champion. Success is a learned skill that simply needs to be understood and applied.

“My daily podcasts will include a brief summary of the day’s race results and my winning insights as to what the teams are doing behind the scenes to overcome the day’s challenges and prepare for the following days stage. In addition, I will also share the proven strategies used by the Postal-Discovery Professional Cycling Teams to create perhaps the greatest sports dynasty ever giving specific examples from my eight Tours. I also invite you to join me for two special “live” teleclasses on the Tour two rest days, where I answer your most important Tour questions. To join me on the call please go to the Ask Dr. Jeff link and type in your question and register for the call.

“My Tour experience tells me that with the correct mindset, strategies, and skills, everyone can become a prolific success. If you wish to support others in becoming their own champion to build a better world then I invite you to consider becoming a friend or sponsor of BecomeYourOwnChampion.com.”

In the ensuing days, look for interviews from Dr. Jeff Spencer and AMA Supercross superstar Kevin Windham about the 2008 Tour de France, which you can follow with unprecedented access and insight from a man who has been there and lived it all like no other.

Please join Dr. Jeff Spencer this Thursday, July 3, at 6:00 PM PST (9:00 PM EST) for www.BecomeYourOwnChampion.com 's historic first podcast!
