Velocity 3 Yamaha Oakland Recap
January 29, 2013 1:05pm
Chicopee, MA - Velocity 3 Yamaha rolled into Oakland confident and ready to show why the first-year team earned the support of Factory Yamaha. With a late start to the season, Bobby Kiniry and Kyle Chisholm didn't have the testing time afforded other riders; however, literally ‘race-testing’ they continue to improve and put in solid performances.
Lined up next to one another for their first heat, the teammates Kyle Chisholm (#11) and Bobby Kiniry (#39) would battle each other and a host of riders all seeking a transfer to the Main. While not getting the best of starts, both rode aggressive and attacked the rutted, tight Oakland track. Kyle would post an impressive 5th, finishing in front of Chad Reed and teammate Bobby Kiniry in 7th, all transferring directly to the Main.
With both V3R riders once again in the Main, things looked promising in Oakland. However, on the home turf of the NFL’s Oakland Raiders, no strangers to bad luck, a similar fate would deal a set back to both riders. In the second turn a huge pile up would ensue and prove costly to both Kiniry and Chisholm. Regrouping and quickly escaping the carnage, they put their heads down and started moving forward in tandem. While passing areas were few and far between, Chisholm and Kiniry modestly moved forward and finished in the 13th and 15th position, respectively.
The series returns once again to Anaheim for the third time in five races next weekend. The DRD-powered Yamaha YZ450Fs have proven in a short amount of time they are more than capable and the riders have demonstrated they have the skills to race in the front of the pack. Third time could be the charm for V3R.
V3R thanks those supporters of the team including Yamaha Motor Corporation, Yamalube, GYTR, DRD, Dunlop, Costa Rica Unlimited, Ironclad, Ride Engineering, Moto-Master, Twin Air, Athena, Cycra, DID, Dubya, ICW, 360 Unlimited, Pro Taper, Supersprox, Works Connection, Matrix, Hinson, Motoseat, Renagade Fuel, STS Graphics, and Freegun Underwear.
