Unadilla 250 Moto 1 Report
Saturday, August 18, 2012 | 2:35 PMIt took nine rounds and eighteen motos, but the wait for reigning MX2 Champion Ken Roczen is finally over. Roczen captured his first career moto win in the United States in moto one at Unadilla. After a couple heart-breaking defeats late in motos, including last week at Southwick, Roczen was never challenged down the stretch en route to his captivating win.
For the second straight week GEICO Honda rookie Zach Bell was able to grab the early lead over Roczen and Blake Baggett. But for the second straight week Bell threw it away with an early crash. Bell would rebound to finish eighth in the first moto.
From there it was the Ken Roczen show. Roczen’s teammate, Marvin Musquin, quickly moved around Baggett and GEICO Honda’s Justin Bogle to move into second but never posed a threat to Roczen. Musquin would finish second behind his Red Bull KTM teammate.
Baggett finished third, but got more help from Justin Barcia in the championship chase as Barcia finished a disappointing seventh. The Rockstar Energy Suzuki duo of Blake Wharton and Jason Anderson would round out the top five.

Great ride for Kenny, he looked good out there! Congrats to the KTM Team!
Finally world Champs made it !!! Now Marvin it's your turn to score 1.
OK, at 50 y/o, I am still entertained by Da Man. What Roger DeCoster has accomplished in his career.........friggin unreal. Forget legend, how about the apotheosis of an MX God.
Right 2DamnOld2Race, and he gonna make USA win the MXDN in the deep Belgium sand...I am working on being there to see that.
I will suport France first but I know Roger is the man and his guys will be ready to win.
Congratulations to Ken Roczen on his 1st US National Moto Win. And more importantly, a huge Gorilla off of his back. We all knew it was only a matter of time with all his experience and tenacity to overcome adversity. Well Done, Champ!
WTG Bagget, you kept the points the same on Barcias home track plus rode smart in the second moto by taking that 5th. All you need is to keep in 4th from now on to win the championship because no one is going to win 4 motos.
HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII HAAAAAAAAAAA Love you Marvin, you made it ! Today you made me forget the pain of how many times and how bad your father kicked my ass !
But please, today you are racing in US, stop calculating like an Euro, stay wild open from the start to the end !
motodog1977, Ken is a kid he can caught flu very fast ! It's POURcell and not POORcell, you American really don't do any effort to write correctly :)
Hey Ken, you were smiling before the 2nd moto gate drop then suddenly you get the flu betweeen motos. Even if that were remotely true learn to cowboy up like
RC and Baggett do and stop sounding like a whiner.
Bell needs to go on a In and Out Burger diet.He needs some weight to hold on at these speeds.Stamina.
Great job KTM!
I am a new fan of KTM after being a Honda man for 40 years.
I knew it was going to be a KTM day today since yesterday.
Yah good day for MX!History Moto Heads!
I am curious as to what the final ruling we be after Musquin went off the track and came back on ahead of Bogle.
correction- I am curious as to what the final ruling would be after Musquin went off the track and came back on ahead of Bogle.
With all the attention the press has showered up on Roczen this year, I bet, getting KTM its first overall in the 250 class this year tastes very sweet for the Candyman, Marvin Musquin. You have got to like MM,as he seems to always be smiling, he does not speak English as well as his more herald teammate, but he comes across far more genuine! From setting the fastest time in qualifying, to putting in two great rides on a treacherous track, Congratulations to the Candy Man, Marvelous Marvin Musquin!!! A BIG THUMBS UP!!!
Congratulations to Roger and Marvin, Ryan and Ken. When the man is leading the team you can bet on their success but I didn't think it would come this fast. Next year may be allot tougher when all the competition is back and healthy.
Regarding Bubba's poor showing, does anyone think the Suzuki is the problem? So many were quick to condemn the Yamaha when he was crashing on it. So much so that it got a bad rep. Maybe it's time to admit it wasn't the bike so much as the fact that he does things on it that no motorcycle is designed to do.
@Claxton; As per your comment below, I went back and watched the NBCSN Broadcast of the 2nd Moto, and I was just curious where you saw Roczen smiling before the gate dropped. Because there is (NO) image of Roczen smiling, nor was there an image of him puuking either. There was (NO) image what-so-ever. NONE.
So, as I have stated before, you have been known to revert to, "selective memory" on many occasion to suit (your) bias mindset to satisfy your disapproval for anything you don't like, Roczen being one, as you have made that blatantly obvious on these boards.
I ask you, Claxton, have you ever caught the flue, or food poisoning? Because I have. And I can tell you it has come on in minutes, not days, or hours, but minutes. One minute you feel fine and the next your downshifting the porcelain bus and wish you were dead. I could only imagine what it must be like to put in a 35 minute moto, and still take 3rd overall. To me that takes guts. Guts Whiners don't have, as you accused Roczen of being.
With your selective memory, suiting your less than accurate perception of reality, just maybe someone could accuse you of displaying those characteristics of a Whiner. Far be from me to do so...
I am just saying, unless you were/are Roczen's shadow, you really don't know that he did, or does not have the flu right now, do you. Then just maybe you should refrain with your (false) accusations when you really don't know. If for no other reason than to make you feel better about yourself,. at the expense of others.
You too, can show a little cowboy upp'in on these boards. Just sayin...
PS Now, if by chance you were on the gate next to Roczen and you and he were high five'en, then you could make a comment about his actions just before the gate dropped. But only you would know that and no one else, but you and your best buddy Roczen. And if that is the case then I am all wrong, and whining. Whaaaa!
Give people the benefit of the doubt sometime, as they might you...
"Hey Ken, you were smiling before the 2nd moto gate drop then suddenly you get the flu betweeen motos. Even if that were remotely true learn to cowboy up like

Who is this motodog fool? Poor-cel? He was the fastest 250 guy in the US for the two years he was here. Talk about whining. Get over it.
I just got over some sort of flu bug a few weeks back. It knocked me out of work for almost 2 weeks, temp between 101 and 103 for almost 9 days, even on antibiotics. And I usually never take off from work, even when really sick, own my own business and just usually tough it out. And the thing was I woke up fine and in 2 hours it felt like I was run over by a truck, my legs hurt so bad. So Motodog I beg to differ from your opinion on KR.
BTW, congrats to MM, great ride today, but he definitely should have been docked a position in that first moto. Way off the track and made the pass while doing it. I'm astonished the AMA didn't catch that/do anything, especially after their speech earlier in the year about staying on the track.
@Motohead279: Thanks for the reminder, I was so busy reading the anti-Roczen anti-Fan mail (in total dis-belief mind you) that I forgot Marvelous Marvin's off-track excursion. Here it is a full 24 hours later, and to my knowledge, Marvin is still King for a Day at Unadilla. You and I both know if this was baseball, or basketball or soccer, or some other well defined boundary sport, the young Frenchman would be fined, penalized or receive a total forfeiture of his, Crown for a Day. As loosely defined as the off-road character of the sport of Motocross is, it seems a little ironic to have a strict enforcement of a micron measurement in a cow-pasture to determine right or wrong, or a winner and a loser. That is a tough call for an AMA official to make, and one I would be very happy not having to make.
