Riding the wave of a six race win streak, and 11 of 12 motos, Ryan Dungey continued his torrid pace in the deep sand of Moto-X 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts. With his moto one win over Mike Alessi—who is one of only two riders to beat Dungey in 2012—Dungey moved one step closer to wrapping up the 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.
Mike Alessi was able to grab the pivotal start in the first moto with Phil Nicoletti, who is making his 450 debut after parting ways with Eleven10 Mods during the two-week break, in tow. Alessi stretched out his lead early, as points leader Ryan Dungey was going to work on Nicoletti. After making quick work of Nicoletti, Dungey began cutting into Alessi’s lead.
Alessi was able to hold Dungey at bay for half the moto, but Dungey proved to be too strong in the latter stages of the race. Alessi would hold on for second with Tommy Hahn rounding out the podium. Local product, Robbie Marshall, took home an impressive fourth with Andrew Short in fifth.
