Budds Creek 450 Moto 1 Report

Saturday, June 16, 2012 | 2:55 PM

In 2010 Ryan Dungey won a remarkable 10 out of 12 overalls, and went unchallenged en route to his first 450 outdoor title. As the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship headed east down I-70 to Mechanicsville, Maryland, home of Budds Creek, and round five of the championship, the 2012 season is quickly looking like a mirror image of ’10.

Since James Stewart injured his wrist at Thunder Valley, Ryan Dungey has been on a tear going 1-1-1-1. But none of his victories looked as effortless as his moto one win at Budds Creek.

Justin Brayton, who up to this point in the season has been a major disappointment, grabbed the holeshot but in an instant was swallowed up by Dungey. From there it was all Ryan Dungey as he made it look way too easy en route to his fifth straight moto win.

Behind Dungey, Broc Tickle’s surprising run in the 450 class continued at Budds Creek. Tickle fought his way around Mike Alessi early to take over third and then set his sights on Brayton. A determined Tickle quickly made his way around Brayton and settled in from there—picking up a 450 career-best second place finish.

Brayton continued to drop anchor as he was quickly gobbled up by a charging Mike Alessi and Jake Weimer. After a barrage of quick hits from the likes of Tickle, Alessi and Weimer, Brayton was able to regain his composure and finish fifth in moto one. Andrew Short, Ryan Sipes, Brett Metcalfe, Davi Millsaps and Josh Grant would round out the top ten.

Boooooooooring!!! If JS hadn't have elected to race the outdoors this year, and make it through a couple rounds, we may well have had our third rider to get a perfect season!! All due respect to RD and the other guys battling a minute back from him, but this is a sleeper now!!

Geez, now you guys are copying and pasting your comments on how bored you are with the 450's. We get it, you wish Stewart was out there. He will be soon enough and hopefully you won't be so bored. Maybe try to marvel at Dungey's capability? We've watched MC destroy the SX field for close to a decade, we watched RC dominate to the tune of what was it 45 wins in 47 tries did they say in Racerhead? 2 perfect seasons? We watched Hannah dominate for a few years, watched RJ dominate (although Ward and Bailey kept him honest). Larocco dominated one year after Kiedrowski got hurt. Get used to it, it will happen again most likely. Great racing is an anomaly not the norm. The race for the lead may not exist, but you guys should be slapped for saying MX is boring under any circumstance.

I think you are wrong B-KR...and don't think we need slapped for wanting to see the "best" battle the rest of (or even one of) the "best".......i give all due respect to those who remain out there racing and yes, Dungey is on it big time, but it is boring to watch nobody really battling.....and don't even act like it isn't more exciting if more of the top guys are out there...it has nothing to do with discrediting the rest of them, it's just not the same, and you know it!! Why do you make this a Stewart thing?? It'd be great if any of the other "tops" were out there to make it tougher on Dungey...we had that the first two races and unfortunately JS went out before Dungey was able to possibly finish ahead of him......it makes a difference man!!

also, Dungey's lack of style and personality makes it even more boring when he dominates.. yeah he's fast and dominating the competition, mad props dung, but it's like Mr Rogers is out there dominating.

No offense to Mr Rogers

Dungey is the Vanilla Killa

Great to see Tickle and Weimer start to step it up, keep up boys and we could have a race for first. Don't know why everyone is suprised with a 450 snooze fest last year was the most exciting since maybe RC's first year in the class.

Great to see all the bias against Dungy and still in the Bubba camp. When I saw Bubba go 1-1 the whole outdoor season, I was bored with that season. I thought, what’s up with that? Now you all want an outrageous, egotistical winner again that take chances to wow the crowd. I am surprised because this crowd seems to be a family crowd. Personally, I think a nice humble and thoughtful rider that stays on his bike would be a better role model than a fast, reckless, egocentric quitter.
Sure, it would be great to have them all healthy, but when a smart guy comes along that likes to race, you turn your back on him.
Shame on the fans. Quit bellyaching and enjoy the race. Lots of drama in the back of the pack. Get angry at the fact that NBC and Fuel are turning this sport into a snooze fest with the announcers being from a different sport. Hire Ricky! Put it on live ONE channel!. Geez.
