Your Collection: 1976 Honda XR75 RC Replica
Sunday, July 3, 2011 | 6:00 AM
This weeks collection comes from Greg Streicher in Sand Diego, CA.
"I was promised a 1974 XR75 by my folks as a kid and never got it :( 2 years later I had a job and bought myself a 1976 CR125 Elsinore but I was always bummed about the XR. I grew up in Orange County real close to Misson Honda and J&B Racing. I remember drueling over the XR's and CR's they we're building there. I also loved the RC Factory Honda's of that period. All Red, Red Fork Boots, Trick Shocks and tons of Bling. For my 50th birthday I decided I was going to have the XR that I was denied as a kid. I was going to model it after the RC Honda Factory Bikes and the following pictures is what I created. I started the project with a decent starter XR just over a year ago and fired this bad boy up right on my birthday. Nothing sounds cooler than a piped XR :) Thanks go to RE-MX & AJ at XR-Mini Racer where I got most of my parts from. It was fun to make but my wife wants me to get my childhood shrine out of the house LOL. Hope you like it."

Greg, Great job! That bike looks better than new. If I had that XR, it would sit in my office. Enjoy. Jim A
Did you have trouble finding some new parts? great restore, I think most of our parents promised us bikes but in the long run we ended up saving the money our self. That's commitment.
DG, now you're talkin'..
Sick bike!!!!
I had an XR80 with the same DG down pipe! man that thing roared for a mini! Thanx for sharing!!!!
Happy Birthday. Very nice XR, excellent job. I too had an XR, but with the Jeff Ward pipe. Reminds me of Saddleback day. Thanks.
I wish I could have that bike!!!!!!! I too always wanted an XR 75, one of the original silver/red bikes. I rode my neighbors a few times, wanted one, but parents had different idea.
Sweet bike and sweet story. Like you, it took me a little over 40 years to get the first bike I rode (Honda Mini Trail 50) when I was about 8 or 9. I bet that every time you walk by that bike and take a peak a big Ol' smile comes over your face.
Back in the day I would have given my left nut to have that bike. Hell. I'd still give a left nut for that thing...
Love the RC look!
NICE!!!!! Awesome piece of history there.
Very nice XRyep, gotta include that ol gal in the history of the beginning of motocross in the USA. My yammie gt 80 W/ baffle out, couldnt run w/ em....or Hodaka dirt squirts, or.......vespas, or
Reason number 2,579 not to get married. If a woman tries to make me decide between her and a bike, she will lose. My first marriage taught me to never, ever give up your dreams for a woman. They'll rob you of your dreams if you give them a chance, and they won't respect you when you give those dreams up for her. They don't really even know what THEY want, but they'll sure try to decide what you're going to have. Keep that XR, never give it up until you find the perfect person who will cherish it and keep it like you would. You can be nice, but firm about never giving up your dreams for anybody!
These bikes are where the expresion came from
"corners like it,s on rails"
I like that DG megaphone- the Hooker headers were pretty sweet also.
Thats a beautiful bike Greg. My brother had a silver XR75 when we were growing up and while my Hodaka was seizing up on what seemend like a weekly basis, the XR never failed except for when the air filter would get so dirty it would barely run. My wife said if we had that bike it would be the centerpiece of our living room as it's a true show piece.
mission honda was where I used to buy my elsies
Man! when those things came out, they were the bomb. I had a mini enduro 60. A buddy of mine had the first year XR75 '73. Sooooooo much faster than my little yamie. I wanted one so bad. Held out and got a 74 mx100.
Thanks for all your comments and compliments :) Yep Jake48, I do smile every time I walk by it. I didn't have much trouble finding all the new parts but I did have another parts bike that really helped me out. That's an Original DG pipe on that bike, not a reproduction. When I ride this around the block and get on the throttle it actually sets off every car alarm on the street. Boy, my neighbors must love me......LOL.
Beautiful. Just beautiful. I would love to do that, but like you, the wife might not appreciate it as much as I would.
