Anaheim Supercross Results
Sunday, January 9, 2011 | 11:30 AMANAHEIM, Calif. – The 2011 Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM World Championship, season got underway on Saturday in front of a sold out crowd at Angel Stadium. The most anticipated season in the history of the sport was kicked-off by with a convincing win by Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto, of Poulsbo, Wash. In the opening race of the Supercross Lites Western Regional Championship, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Josh Hansen, of Elbert, Colo., led a clean sweep of the podium by Kawasaki.
As the gates dropped on the Supercross class main event, Dodge/Hart & Huntington Kawasaki’s Ivan Tedesco, of Murrieta, Calif., raced to the holeshot with Villopoto and Red Bull KTM’s Mike Alessi, of Victorville, Calif., in tow. Villopoto made quick work of Alessi, taking over the top spot on the first lap before going wire-to-wire for his 10th career win in the class.
“This is a nice way to start out the season,” said Villopoto. “Starting out this way makes things much easier. I hope I can start putting together some more wins and a championship this year.”
Defending Monster Energy Supercross Champion Ryan Dungey, of Belle Plaine, Minn., finished second overall aboard his Rockstar/Makita Suzuki, gradually working his way into the runner-up spot and never relinquishing it. San Manuel Yamaha’s James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., rounded out the overall podium in third, overcoming a mid-pack start to methodically work his way into podium position on Lap 12.
“I got off to a decent start and had to play some catch up out there,” said Dungey. “During the week, I’m going to work hard to get ready for Phoenix. I’m glad that I put my Suzuki up on the box tonight.”
“I almost went down a few times,” said Stewart. “Next week, I’ll work on my starts and be prepared for Phoenix. I tried my best to get up there. Once I got into third, I tried to make up some time on Ryan (Dungey) but ran out of laps.”
In the Supercross Lites class, it was all Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki. In his debut for the team, Broc Tickle, of Holly, Mich., grabbed the early lead and led for eight laps before getting passed by Hansen just at the finish line. The duo then opened up a considerable gap over the field.
“I’m happy to be here and get back on my feet and head down the right path,” said Hansen. I have a great crew around me, and I am really excited about tonight. I have a lot of people to thank for sticking by me. I’m excited for the season.”
Supercross Lites class rookie Tyla Rattray, of Wildomar, Calif., completed the Pro Circuit sweep in third.
The evening was a truly dominant one for the entire Kawasaki organization as the brand led every lap of the main events in both the Supercross and Supercross Lites classes while also leading every lap of competition in the Supercross Lites class.

This is Still Bubbas Show. From outside top 10 to 3rd and he is clearly the fastest guy. He ha smatured a lot and he was patient not riding over his head. He has learned winning a race is not winning the championship. RV was looking good too but Dungey was reeling him in. Chad and Canard are right there incase they (top 3)mess up.
Look at the times DGIZZY, Dungey didnt reel in anyone. RV knew how far ahead he was and maintained his lead. And its not ANYONES show. Its a 3 or 4 man show now. Get used to it.
like bd said...4 guys gut this...there is only one reason it took stew laps to reel in TC41 and then laps to pull out of striking range...and its not cuz he was riding smart...
....4 guys got this...
Agreed dgizzy that Stewart made time on everyone. He also had to ride a bit on the edge to do it. If he had started top 5 we night have seen a different outcome from everyone. Who's to say that Dungey and RV don't step it up if Stewart is up there? They ran their race and got the 1 and the 2, which is all that counts. I think Stewart thought he was going to win with the pace he was catching them at. He should be happy with his finish but I bet he has mixed emotions. Think about Hangtown 2010 and how that told how the rest of the season would go. It certainly looked like Reed was the man and Dungey wasn't. RV winning his 1st race back from a badly broken leg is not good for everyone else. He looked to be cruising to me. He is going to be a beast by round 5.
Bubbas show ? Lap times and results tell who's show this is.... gonna be an epic season tho.... Here is to hoping everyone stays healthy ! Congrats RV2 - JH100 and get well WH31 !
The fight has jus begun, congrats 2 RV and RD is always in the hunt, and 4 stewart 2 come from midpack and finish 3rd seconds behind the first 2 guys WOWWW,LETZ GET IT ON!!!!!
What Stewart knows how to do better than the rest is how to pass. Also, once in the lead he is very hard to catch. Until he crashes he will be very hard to beat.
Wow Pro circuit starts the 2011 season the way they finished 2010 with a sweep of the podium. They'll be tough to beat this year.
Does anyone know anything about Pourcel, Josh Hill, or JLaw?
wow! james stewart is going to DOMINATE! He came from very far back to 3rd! With a good start, noone will catch him!!
