Renegade Fuels Prepares for Southwick
Coming into Unadilla, all anyone could talk about was the battle between James Stewart and Ryan Dungey. The real battle was going to happen in the lites class. The chase for the lites title is starting to tighten up with Renegade Fuels rider Trey Canard and Pro Circuit’s Pourcel. The Renegade Fuels, GEICO Powersports Honda rider had won three consecutive overalls coming into Unadilla, but he trailed Pourcel for the championship lead by 38 points. In the first moto all of that would change. After Pourcel would take the lead from his teammate Wilson on the first lap, Pourcel would go down on his own out front. Pourcel would eventually drop out of the race after feeling the effects of his crash and tweaking his bike. Wilson would get the lead back and but have his hands full with Justin Barcia. Barcia and Wilson would come together with Wilson going down, handing second to Canard. A few laps later, Canard caught and passed Barcia for the lead. Barcia would fall again and ended up third. Canard had to fight off yet another teammate, Blake Wharton, until the end of the first moto. Canard would hang on for the first moto win. Renegade Fuels would sweep not only the podium but the top four positions in the first moto with Canard, Wharton, Barcia, and Tomac. In moto 2 Canard would grab the holeshot and have nearly a 10 second lead. Canard would get passed by Pourcel in the last few laps and battled to get back past him but in the end Pourcel would take the second-moto win and now leads Canard by 16 points with six motos left to run. Renegade Fuels Star Yamaha rider Nico Izzi would ride a solid first moto and show he still has the speed to be a contender with a 7th place finish. Izzi has been looking for his grove after coming off injury and illness. Once he is back to 100% look for him to battle for the podium. Renegade Fuels, Honda of Troy, Eleven 10 Mods, Kilbarger Racing rider Darryn Durham did not have the first moto that he wanted but would come out and redeem himself in the second moto with a 7th place finish. Once Durham can shake things up a bit and a little luck, he will be a consistent top guy in the lites class. Renegade would also see Star Yamaha rider Martin Davalos and Suzuki City rider Matt Lemoine score top 10 finishes overall. Both riders would ride consistent motos, Davalos 10-8 and Lemoine 8-12.
Renegade Fuels would power 6 of the top ten and the following riders to a solid finish at Unadilla,
Canard – 1st
Barcia – 2nd
Wharton - 5th
Tomac – 6th
Davalos – 8th
Lemoine – 9th
Izzi – 13th
Durham – 14th
Smith – 15th
DeCotis – 17th
Tapia – 21st
Yenerich – 26th
Willard – 28th
Renegade Fuels would see the podium in the 450 class as well with Brett Metcalfe going 5-3 for 3rd overall. Metcalfe now sits 3rd overall in points with 293 behind Short and Dungey. Another 450 rider with consistent moto scores was Renegade Fuels, Suzuki City rider Steven Clarke. Clarke would go 16-16 for 16th overall.
