Repeat Podium Finish in Phoenix for Connexions' Josh Grant
San Marcos, CA – With round two of the AMA Supercross series now in the books, Connexions Sports and Entertainment's Josh Grant continues to lead the point standings following another incredible podium performance. With Grant's 3rd place finish in Phoenix, AZ at Chase Field, he now leads Chad Reed 45 to 42.
In his heat race, Grant kicked off the night with a holeshot and finished a solid second behind James Stewart. When asked about the good start, Grant replied, "I don't know, we have done a lot of testing with the team and man, we have our bikes just dialed in I guess."
For the main event, Grant again chose to line up towards the outside of the starting box and when the gate dropped, he raced into the first turn with his second holeshot of the night. "It was really hard packed dirt behind the starting gate, but I found a good spot towards the outside," Grant commented on his starts. "It also allowed me to flow into the first turn with a little more momentum and avoid everyone fighting for the inside."
Grant slipped back to second near the end of lap one and proceeded to run second until lap three when Reed snuck by. Grant would settle into 3rd behind the two and finish out the 20 lap main event. When asked about racing with Stewart and Reed, "It's good to be able to run up front with these two guys and see their pace." He continued, "I'm happy with my result. I felt I rode really tight tonight, I found a good rhythm around lap 6 or 7 and settled into a good pace in third, but I want to be able to run a little closer with James and Chad."
Heading into round three, the rookie sensation has finished second in both of his heat races with a 1st and a 3rd in the first two main events of the season. "I'm really excited to be heading back to Anaheim again to race in front of my friends and family and to keep this dream season rolling."
The series now heads back to Angel Stadium of Anaheim in California this Saturday for round 3 of the 17 race series where Grant will look to keep his podium streak alive. You can catch the race on CBS the following day on Sunday January 18th at noon eastern standard time.
