AMA/Chevy Trucks High Point National
Mt. Morris, PA // May 28, 2000
The 2000 High Point National was a very strange race, for a lot of reasons, all with one consistent theme: mud. Heavy rains hit the Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania, track and turned what was supposed to be an epic weekend into an utter mess. It resulted in one of the best days of 125-class winner Kelly Smith’s life—the Michigan Mafia member became the first KTM rider to ever win an AMA Pro Motocross race—as well as one of the worst of future GOAT Ricky Carmichael’s entire career (12-12 for 11th overall). The 2020 race had a unique tie-in to the 2021 GEICO High Point National, as 250 Class winner David Vuillemin is now the coach and trainer of ’21 High Point 450 winner Dylan Ferrandis.
