Anyone who has ever participated in the nationwide qualifying process for the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship will tell you that the most difficult part of the three-step process is the middle one: the Regional. After the fairly laid-back Area qualifiers, where the competition is spread out over several races in each section of the country, the pressure at the Regionals is immense because you must finish in the very top echelon of a full field to even make it to Loretta Lynn’s. And because riders who qualify for the finals are guaranteed their spot on the gate, the pressure is ratcheted up considerably for most.
