In a story I’ve repeated at least 1000 times, I was lucky enough to attend the 1987 Motocross of Nations at Unadilla. It was the first one held in America, but the consensus was that while it was good, it could not match the pageantry of the traditional events held in Europe. To eight-year-old me it was plenty awesome, but Europe had a decades-long head start in running this event, not to mention that America’s ascension to the top of the international heap was still relatively new. It was also the first-ever ‘Nations held outside of Europe or Asia, so there was a lot of stress, and, later, a lot of rain.
