Chase Sexton Injures Knee Ahead of Pro Debut

Well, that changed in a hurry. Just three days after accepting the AMA Horizon Award at the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch, presented by Amsoil, Racer X has learned that Chase Sexton suffered a knee injury, putting his status for his pro debut this weekend at Unadilla in doubt.
Sexton, of the GEICO Honda team, is said to have suffered an avulsion fracture in his left knee. Avulsion fractures occur when the end of a ligament pulls away the piece of bone it is attached to. Such injuries are rare, but are more common in young athletes who are both growing and putting their bodies through rigorous training regimens. The GEICO Honda team says the 16-year-old Sexton has been especially dedicated to his training program since joining the team last year.
The strange part is, Sexton did not even crash. He felt his knee pop when he was shifting, which would indicate the knee might have been under some stress already—which is again more common with athletes his age. He’s now awaiting MRI results and further diagnosis to determine his status for the weekend and beyond.
We will update his status when we know more.
