SPY Del Moto Derby Returns
“Last year’s Del Moto Derby served up some pretty good action,” says 7-time AMA Champion and Encinitas resident Jeremy McGrath. “I’m really excited to be a part of the second annual Del Moto Derby and look forward to bringing motocross racing back to the coast. The passionate San Diego motocross community deserves a homegrown event like this in their own backyard.”
Spectators will bear witness to high caliber riding as top ranking pros and amateurs from all over California and the southwest chase down the win at this invite-only motocross-racing event, along with this year’s unique expositions. In the Mini Truck exhibition race Justin Barcia—fresh off his “Supercross Rookie of the Year” performance—will join “King of Supercross” Jeremy McGrath and perennial fan favorite Kevin Windham in a four-wheel battle for bragging rights. For the traditionalists, the day will feature a 2-Stroke Challenge race with “King McGrath” holding court on his ride of choice, and Justin Barcia will be sure to “whip” the crowd into a frenzy while hosting the Best Whip contest. Fans and spectators alike will also have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the course and riders during the track walk and a SPY MX athlete autograph session, as well as test the new SPY Happy Lens™ during an all-day Happy demo.
Continuing their philanthropic approach to events, SPY is donating $10 from each race entry directly to the Keep A Breast Foundation. With the mission of eradicating breast cancer for future generations, the team from Keep A Breast will be on-site throughout the day to educate young people about prevention, early detection, and cancer-causing toxins in our everyday environment, as well as accept donations to help their mission.
“On top of the amazing riding that’s going down, we’re stoked to have the awesome crew at Keep A Breast as the beneficiary this year,” says Josh Shorter, SPY motorsports sales manager. “We’ve been telling the Keep A Breast story through our successful product collaborations, and now we’ll be able to educate people on-site between all the action at the fairgrounds.”
The first round of racing hits the gates at 10:00 AM, and entrance to this beachside motocross experience is included with your purchase of a San Diego County Fair ticket—available online or at the box office. Adults entry is $14, while ages 6-12 and 62 and up are $8—free admission to children age five and younger.
