Peick Issues Formal Apology

Monday, March 11, 2013 | 3:35 PM

Following an intense battle with Bobby Kiniry in the LCQ Saturday night in Daytona, Weston Peick let his emotions get the best of him -- kicking his bike off the stand. Weston has issued a formal apology to his sponsors and fans following the incident:

I want to apologize to my sponsors and fans for letting my emotions get the best of me Saturday night after the LCQ when I thought I didn't make it in the main. I work very hard and pay a lot of my own expenses so I rely on main events to make my money. Thanks to all of my great sponsors for all you do for me.

- Weston Peick

No need to apologize in my opinion, I like that stuff, plus your a hard dude... Maybe the TV cameras should focus more on the track and not follow a battling privateer back to the pits... Hold it on bro

Its not like he pitched a fit out on the track. He was in his space, after a very intense battle. No big deal. I figure Kiniry must have taken a shovel to his bike as well.

This is how jacked up the Politically Correct worlds is today. When a rider that shows some passion and personality has to FORMALLY apologize for it..Now thats B.S.

Especially since no General Public is in the pits at the time, and Has no expectations of being filmed. Where were the cameras when JS pushed CR's bike off the stand a couple years ago?

Weston,

What are you issueing a formal apology for?

It's your bike, you where in your own pit area, the spectators are in the stands and Speed doesn't have a problem airing your dirty laundry on TV. Boo Hoo Hoo, he kicked his bike over after traveling on his own dime from California to Florida to not make any money. At least he's got enough heart to give a Sh@t. So why is this anyones business and why should Weston feel like he needs to apologize to anybody.

Hell Bob Hannah would kicked over Howerton and then say he'ld break his leg next time if had the chance. This is Motocross, stop trying to pussify the riders by making them feel like they should apoligize, just because the reporters hunt them down like poparazzi to get their pissed off reactions. Of course he's pissed off by not making the main by one position!!!! Politically correct BS doesn't need to be part of our sport. This is motocross, not badmittin!

Keep up the fire Weston, at least you want to win bad enough that it pisses you off when Sh@t happens!!!

As far as heart goes, the LCQ was one of best races of the year. Both showing the emotion and stepping up with a public apology is great for him. Sponsors want individuals that can be both human but not bring embarrassment to their brand. Weston did a great job. Class act.

It was a piss poor display of bad sportsmanship by a petulant and immature person. A real man has compete control over his emotions, and throwing things around after you come up short in life is what losers do.
Glad to see you apologize Weston, only I, for one, don'T think for one moment it came from the heart. I think your team told you to apologize otherwise they'd kick your sorry ass outta there.
Anyhow, I accept your apology. Just don't let it happen again, punk.

I guess you missed it, he's not on a team to get kicked off of, he's a true privateer. If he was on a team getting paid to sit out the main, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt so bad.

I bet you wouldn't call Weston a Punk to his face, he'ld kick your ass worst than his bike. Maybe you should get your Euroass over here for the next race incase Weston has a bad day. That would save some levers and he wouldn't have to apologize, because I'm sure no one would care if he kicked a Euro ass instead of his bike.

Apologies are voluntary. Many of you are saying, "No apology needed."....which makes me think you don't understand the concept of an apology. Nobody ever HAS to apologize.....unless they are worried about other peoples perception(s) of them; it's obvious Weston or someone on his team is concerned about that! If an apology is compulsory, mandatory or forced......it's not an apology!
With that being said, good on you Weston....and apology accepted!

Motoxdoc,
Good point! I didn't think it warranted an apology and am surprised to see it. Also glad to see someone having such thoughts after the fact. I too think it is refreshing to see someone offering an apology due to being embarrassed about their own actions. As you said, they usually are forced.

Peick showed heart on the track and passion afterward. That isn't a bad thing. He bought the bike and does most of the maintenance on his bike. He doesn't have a team to represent and I would think his sponsors are happy to get a little extra exposure with him. He did nothing to embarrass himself or a sponsor. It's not like he kicked a dog or a kid (or euromike).

I'm sure Mitch may have a different opinion if Wilson had kicked his bike off of the stand but that is a whole different situation.

I for one think it was awesome to show some emotion. He didn't take it out on another rider, or someone elses bike. He was pissed and caught up in the emotion of the moment and nobody can blame him. Too bad the camera was allowed into the pits to be able to capture that.

The only time an apology needs to be given is when someone negatively affects someone else or their property. Weston did not do that so no apology is needed.

Love to see the heart and determination. Someone should set up a "Donate To Weston" site. I would be happy to send a couple hundred bucks to help the guy out just because he rides with so much passion.

Same thing for Kiniry who is also a class act. Great race from both of these guys.

That last lap and finish were the highlight of the night.

(I'm going to post this in this thread too):
What I don't understand is: Why don't they have a high-speed video camera aimed at the finish line? They're not that expensive, and that's what almost all finish line type sports now use (NASCAR, horse racing, track and field, ...). I trust a video still far more than a transponder. Just review the tape, post the frame where the winner's tire touches the finish line, and be done with it.

I haven't seen a single photo with proof of who won (if anyone has a link, please post it). It needs to be aligned with the finish line, or it's worthless.

Mixed feelings on this one. Emotions makes great TV (producers love it) .... so no wonder they showed it ... especially after such a great last ditch effort. On the other hand, in this age of evaporating sponsorship ..... slamming ones bike and/or helmet to the ground shows disrespect to the brands. Company owners and team managers pay attention to this stuff. It's almost like saying "if I wasn't on this bike I would have beat him" .... which even if it is true shouldn't be implied (Stewart chose his words very carefully when on his Yamaha). I realize Peick probably paid for the bike himself so it's not the same situation. But still, it's a bad move considering future potential sponsors are watching. Throw stuff, kick the ground, curse the air blue .... but leave your bike or helmet out of it. If you are super good and winning everything going away .... you can get away with stuff (until you aren't winning) ... but Peick is in that gray zone of 10th to 20th place .... that's the "politically correct/begging/butt kissing" zone in regards to sponsorship.

Weston is a hard charger and he has a strong fan base behind him since he is viewed as "a simple mans" racer not under a factory rig.

No apology required from my point of view. Factory dudes with a "team" don't have the chance to kick their bike over because they dump it off to their mechanic and go hide in the semi. Pieck sitting there alone in his lawnchair beside his bike is the epitome of the privateer racer, dealing with all the crap by himself with nowhere to hide. Hannah wouldn't apologize and neither does Weston. Great ride even if you had of lost the sprint to the finish.

Baseball players brake bats, football players throw helmets, NASCAR drivers run out on the track to show emotions, and even hockey player FIGHT, but they don't where about soft hearted men in a office wearing suites.

This is a man's sport, so if you can't handle a little blow out then you need to get out of this sport.

I am one of Westons sponsors that make up the "team" he rides for....I was personally kinda surprised when i saw him get upset and kick his motorcycle off the stand as he has always been professional and mellow in experience with him. He is a true privateer racing with the top riders in the world as ive always described it to my friends as being on an "80 novice budget" so doing it every week as he does is amazing to me.Some of the reasons i started helping Weston in the first place is because he trains hard, rides hard,is completely focused on his racing,he doesnt have any groupies and also because he keeps his cool in most situations. All this really proves to me is that he is human and makes mistakes like all of us and im sure its not his first and probably wont be his last but as long as he learns from it this he will be a better person. When i saw what happened the first thing i did was text him to let him know to quote "keep that intensity into the main" but unfortunately his motor was failing so he didnt get to finish. As far as im concerned he doesnt really need to apologize to the general public for anything as he has already shown the appropriate people hes sorry for his actions.

I too am one of Weston's sponsors and I support Weston 100%. I know Weston would like to have this one back but honestly I love the intensity and passion Weston brings to our sport. I see a lot of posts about how Weston only apologized to appease his sponsors. But you are all wrong. Weston gave a heartfelt apology to his fans for a momentary lapse in judgment that unfortunately was caught and aired on national TV.

We are proud to be a part of Weston's privateer program and if/when we can afford to build out a bigger, better team Weston would be the first rider I would call.

Thanks for always giving 100% and hanging it out every weekend Weston!
