HRT Honda / MotoThump.com’s Jimmy Albertson takes 14th in 450 main event
QUALIFYING: “Top Jimmy” would takes his MERGE RACING /FMF Honda 450 to his best qualifying position of the year. Breaking the top ten for the first time in 2013, Jimmy would once again be the fastest privateer racer. His 9th fastest qualifying time would put him ahead of many riders on factory backed race machines.
HEAT RACE: The 9th in qualfying would give Albertson a 5th place gate pick in the heat. The VORTEX / RENEGADE FUEL / REKLUSE CLUTCH powered #55 CRF450 rider would use his good gate pick to his advantage with a good gate jump, and rounded the first corner in the top 5. In heavy traffic in the 2nd corner, he would wash his front end on some large dirt clods at the bottom of the bowl and go down. A “never give up” attitude would bring him from the back of the pack to finish in 11th position and two positions out of qualifying directly to the main.
LCQ: There was one thing “Top Jimmy” could see clearly through his BEER OPTICS goggles, and that was he was going to the main event at his home town race in the “Show Me State” no matter what it took. A fifth place start would make it tough to make the top two spots for a transfer. A quick pass on Sipes and then Lamay would put him in 3rd and making up time on Blose who also had made the pass on Lamay. With the white flag waving, Jimmy had moved within striking distance of Blose and would put hard pass on Blose when he went high in the corner. The hometown crowd erupted as Missouri’s own would be heading to the Main Event along with Tomac who won the LCQ.
MAIN EVENT: Making the main after having to race the LCQ is great, but then you take your position on the very last gate to start the race. Jimmy would start out in last place after the first lap. A huge crash with Goerke and Chisholm would bring out the red flag for a restart. Canard and Partridge would also run into their own problems, and Jimmy would line up in 16th position for the restart on lap 3. The HRT/ MOTOTHUMP.COM racer would move up to 14th and then make a pass on Weimer for 13th position. A runin with Peick would cost him sometime and Weimer would get him back. Albertson would settle into 14th position and gain another 7 points in the 17 race series.
RACE NOTES: Albertson has made gradual progress during the series as he has moved from 25th overall after the 2nd race of the season to 16th overall after 9 races.
