That 80 would make a sweet pit bike.
I never owned one but was lucky enough to race an 82' 250 and an 83' 490.won on both bikes (different events/years) first time out.Maico will forever hold a special place in my heart. That 490 motor was so sweet, but the clutch and tranny were not.Motor was so good you didnt need to use the clutch or shift much after the start.
Like the pics,sweet bikes!
@ motorhead620
You didnt need to use the clutch or shift much after the start.... bECAUSE YOU WERE A SLOW dOUCH'E BAG RIDING AROUND IN FIRST GEAR ... mORON
Had to many of them to remember ...love 490's.....nice 80 also. Nice bikes...
Is the" funnion "located between the gonads and anus (in your case).
@funnion breath your a dumbass, if you ever rode the bike you would know its a 4speed and that first and second gear would pull the walls off you and your mommys house.
Jesse D. Reed is and was a douch'e bag
Clean classic Iron bikes. Thanks for sharing.
Sexy! Bikes look good too. ;)
That XR80 is to funny and very cool.I've never thought about it but that stock Honda tank with Macio decals looks a lot like a '81 Maico tank.Good job.I love it.
I guess it is safe to assume that the Maico RM100 is nicknamed the NutCracker.
Having trouble deciding which one I like the best. But it is definately between the 80 and the chick next to the bike in the last pic!
Funnion Breath, cracking on Maicos?? I know of no better way of revealing that one has absolutely NO knowledge of motocross history than to crack on Maicos from a modern context. It is akin to cracking on a Ferrari 250 gto because it had no A/C or a Supermarine Spitfire because it had no nose-wheel.
The weakness of shame as a deterrence is the level of situational awareness required of the ignoramus in question.
I rode a 82 250 and owned a 83 490 with 4 speed gear box. At the time I lived in Utah and had an extra wheel with a paddel tire. Great in the sand dunes in southern Utah.
Beautiful Maicos- even the fako Maicos. A true Maico junkie.
thats sweet !!!!!!!!! love it and the 83 490 aint bad either.
I hated to see Alan King show up on his Maico, back in the day. Very good ol memorys ty.
Those are some cool looking old Maico's no doubt. But wen I think of Maico only two photo's come to mind. Dirt Rider magazine w/Danny "Magoo" Chandler! The one where he's jumping the bike with no side covers and the tank hidden and the cover shot where he jumping like he's on a half pipe!!
The 490 was nasty, I use to tell people that you don't crack the throttle wide open or clutch it hard or you will be on your back quick! I was 15 and about 90 pounds and i barely cracked the throttle and bam she was flying,The 250 spider was nothing after getting off the 490! Those were the days!
