He had a real bad wreck about 3 months ago. This could be from those injuries.

Damn. Infections are way more dangerous than we can imagine. Its essentially why I lost mine too. While a below knee is a life changer, its by far the easiest to live with. I wish him the very best. Get well soon Josh. You'll be back out doing all the things you liked before you know it.

Everyone else, kids and adults, dont fool around with redness and pain. Toughing it out is not an option.

I just read the above link on his tib/fib injury. This is exactly what can happen after surgeries. You think the pain is from the broken bones but its an infection that gets into the bone. Many times its picked up in the hospital. Sorry I'm only guessing what happened to Josh. Just trying to help someone else who gets injured.

Tough news, but at this point no doubt the best option, and in the end won't change his life much w/ the current technology available. He will be a machine at the adaptive MX someday. Get well soon Josh!

That really sucks. At first I thought it was his left since that leg/foot appeared to be worse in the original wreck. Sounds like he is going to have a rough recovery, but I'll be praying for him and his family. Hope you pull through and recover to your best Josh.

Truly a shame! I know Josh will make the best of it but sad news. Here is a guy riding into the twilight of his career. Has surely dealt with his share of injuries. A good family man looking like he might retire fairly healthy and now he will deal with a permanent, life changing event.

Good thing he is a great guy with a strong support network. Somehow he will make the best of it and turn it into a positive.

Let this be stored in the memory banks of all of us who moto, the risk is ALWAYS present. The best thing we can do is be aware and be prepared mentally and physically for the requirements of our great sport.

Keep your faith Josh!!!!!!!!!!

Terrible news. One of the Texas greats we are so proud of here. I hope the Pistorius Olympic story lifts his spirits and others too.

Whoa! Loosing a leg should not happen in a 1st world society. I wonder if Josh procrastinated seeking treatment since he didn't/doesn't have health insurance? If everybody had insurance this type of thing wouldn't happen. Of course, if everybody had insurance then all the rednecks would be angry and term in 'Obamacare'. Fact is, here in Canada we have had 'Obamacare' for decades and nobody looses legs to infections. I think this is a good example of why it is immoral for a wealthy society to not care for it's citizens.

Praying for Josh and his family. I almost lost my left leg to an infection I received in the hospital several years ago. Very scarey and it happens fast. Get well soon Josh!!!

MXD, I'm praying for healthcare so everybody will be as lucky as you. It disheartens me to see your country allow this to happen to Josh; it's truly avoidable, as you experienced, but you were lucky enough to have $ for insurance... unlike Josh. This type of thing should never happen in a 1st world country!

Jesus (dude- get a better on-line name if you expect people to take you seriously) is right. When are you people going to realize that you are being led by the nose by the health insurance companies to believe that there is something evil about government sponsored health care? I pay thousands of dollars a year in taxes and thousands of dollars a year in health care insurance. I expect better coverage than the companies are required to give me because I end up spending tens of thousands of dollars out of pocket for health care too. The US has the worst healthcare insurance system in the world. You will find out as you get older, have kids and have to pay huge health care bills. It's a real shame that atheletes like Josh have to pay the price because American health insurance sucks and they are willing to have Josh give up his leg for the sake of higher profits. Write your congressman, protest, do something because it has to stop and if you aren't feeling it now you will eventually.

Was this about how awesome Canada is with their health insurance and how the US has sucky insurance or was this about a great athlete who is going through something you two douche bags can't even relate to. Anyway, Josh I'm sorry hear this and hope you get well soon.

motoguzzi wrote: 11:31am August 11, 2012

to be truely rightous jesus.......... health care should be like a car, you get what you can afford to pay for. it is immorral to demand that your fellow citizens pay for your broken leg that you did while indulging in high risk activities. america has good health care, it is expensive because of its quality and lawyers. i've raced in canada and have canadian friends who ride and race, one blew his knee out back in 86. went to michigan to get it fixed because it was going to be six to nine months before he could get the surgery in canada, although it would have been free i suppose. his dad made some calls and got him in surgery less than a week after the injury. back riding before he would have got to a surgen up in canada(for fee) in this world YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! this aint heaven.......its closer to hell

Profile Picture
Jesus wrote: 2:16pm August 13, 2012

Yup, josh "got what he paid for", and that is why america's lack of health care is immoral. No other civilized country would let a citizen loose a leg.

Jesus - you have no idea what you are talking about. Just because a hick country like Canada has a healthcare program does't mean that it works. If fact, your country has about the worst healthcare plan in the world. It takes forever for appointments and good luck trying to go to a Dr that you like. Just shut up, stay up there and keep quite. We'll protect you in the event of a war... just like always.

tomktm you should add douchbag to your name, it fits you well. Just wanted to add the US starts the wars and expects everyone to back them and their views. Thats all the time I have for you DOUCHBAG!
