Stanton to be Honored at RedBud
Thursday, July 5, 2012 | 3:55 PMThe Legends & Heroes Tour will honor Six-time AMA Motocross/Supercross Champion and leader of winning U.S. Motocross des Nations teams at Red Bud. July 7, 2012
Manlius, NY: Jeff Stanton was a six-time AMA Motocross and Supercross Champion of the 1980s and 1990s. In all, the quietly determined Michigan rider tallied 37 national wins combining victories in AMA Supercross as well as AMA 250cc and 500cc motocross. He won both AMA 250cc Motocross Championships and AMA Supercross Series titles in 1989, 1990 and 1992.
Stanton rode for Honda for the bulk of his career while earning all of his titles on Hondas. He became a racing legend overseas by way of his outstanding performances in the Motocross des Nations. He also won the 250cc U.S. Grand Prix of Motocross three years in a row. In just eight seasons, Stanton tallied enough victories to be ranked in the top 10 on the all-time wins list in each of the AMA Supercross, AMA 250cc Motocross and AMA 500cc Motocross categories.
Professor Gary Bailey states, “I remember when Jeff was on Yamaha. When it came to style and technique, Jeff had none. Jeff was a muscle man and he did that well. I would have never thought that he would have become the technical rider that he ended up becoming. This just shows me, that with a lot of hard work and determination, you can be whatever you want to be. For me, Jeff Stanton was not only a great champion on the track, but off the track as well. Congratulations Jeff.”
Tom White formally of White Brothers says, "Jeff Stanton was a working class Motocross/Supercross hero that went about his business of winning championships without the fan-fair of some of our champions. Possibly because he let his riding do the talking and was not vocal about his talents with the media. His amazing 6 AMA National titles speak for itself and Jeff continues to work and support our sport, which makes him one of my favorites of all time!"
Jeff Station will be presented the Legends & Heroes Award on the Lucas Oil stage during opening ceremonies at Red Bud. The champ will be at the Legends & Heroes Tour Moto Museum Saturday afternoon
for a meet and great with the fans.

Funny how a guy puts his head down and handles the business at hand with no drama and not much is made of it whereas, someone with half the accomplishments and twice the mouth is to be glorified.
Tom White, I couldn't have said it better myself.
RESPECT.
Stanton inspires me every day in my life. He is a hero..everytime i want to give up, i think of jeff.
He would pick stewart up by his underwear and bowl him thru the whoop section faster than any riders today. Yup..im sticking with that.
Stanton was a great rider, however he wasn't the most talented rider but his attitude is what made him win all his 6 championships. You would've NEVER hear him say that his goal was a top 10 like a lot of the new factory riders, what a shame. Stanton should be an example to all riders.
Now on a different note, since when did this article include James Stewart. I think its getting old. Give it up already. Its like you people are in love with James.
I bet if you ask Stanton, he would tell you how much he respects JS7 for his riding and his will to always win.
Before he turned pro he used to come to Kenworthy's Pro-Am races on a #56 Yamaha.Him and Tommy Watts would battle and put on a heck of a show.Watts usually beat him but #56 kept working hard and we see where he went.
Please define " you people". If ricky carmichael were currently the best rider, his name would be used. Stewart is currently the benchmark, so get used to hearing his name when comparisons are made. But i do agree, it gets almost as old as motocross action trying to explain something they know nothing about
