Sunday, March 18, 2012 | 2:40 PMEarlier this morning JGR/Toyota Yamaha's James Stewart tweeted this quick update on his condition after a heat race crash in Indianapolis:
@JS7 Im Very sore & will get checked out when I get back to Fl. Bummed 4 my team & fans. Still trying to put what happen last night together.
We will check in on Stewart's team to follow up on his condition later, and check his status for next week's race in Toronto.

Here James, just write this down and use it each time.
Got out of contriol
Attempted to save
Could not save
Crashed
Took multiple riders with me
Repeat each week
"Still trying to put what happen last night together"
Translation..... " Im still trying to figure out who, or what to blame" because it could never be my fault....................
pretty funny,, amatuers (above comments) giving advise to one of the most naturally talented riders ever,,
Buy some Bridgestones put a Pirelli label on the sidewall , you did nothing wrong , then you can ride over the front like you know how with more confidence......
He didn't even crash if you watch the video again- Kdub clipped him when he went by, then he got a nice RM450z to the head. Villopoto's crash was just as squiddly, but he was just lucky no one else was around- Same goes for Kroc. That last lap pass by Malcolm didn't look like it was going to work out too good- but isn't it "anything goes" in the LCQ? He was probably just pist off after his katoom failed him AGAIN in the heat race. That has to be getting old by now.
Hopefully he is just sore and nothing else. We need excitement in our sport but it would be nice without such drastic injuries. I really wonder how these young kids will be when they get to their 40's and 50's as far as pain goes. In any case hope James will be on the starting gate at the next event!!! It will be dull without another fast rider on the line.
Still trrying to put what happened last night together???? It is the same thing that has followed you through out your carrier. Brain fade and bad decisions. WTF you jump across the track because you won't let off when you loose Controll so you take your self and others out with you. You can't fix stupid!
The Medical crew CLEARED him for no concussion, so thats not the case. Besides if you watch him " fall over " he doesnt hit the ground hard at all and nobody touches him, Jimmy only hits his seat . Windham is the one that really got plowed into and then trapped under several bikes ! but he didnt need to be carried around.................................
I attribute his crash to a slicka$$ track!
Anyone that poses with Little Wayne needs a checkup for a brain injury. Come on, who wants to be associated with rap crap !
kawak that's brutal, ouch! He obviouly hit his head harder than people think. It's really simple what happened there if you look at a replay; he just lost traction on that jump face, pretty simple. I hope he's not hurt and I especially hope KW isn't hurt.
Good answer KM306, It always amazes me the people on here that have all this vast knowledge of racing. It's that simple, he lost traction!! And it has nothing to do with the tires!! Seriously people do any of you people ride bikes? It's a supercross race and right after the start! The last thing a rider needs to be doing is taking it easy so....someone can land on him? yea, that's it. Oh, I guess RV needs different tires than too!!
Sure can find a lotta' sarcasm and know-it-all comments here whenever a once favorite son has another bad break and can't reignite the magic that was once his... A really sad statement of where we are when so-called 'fans' of this great 2-wheeled motorsport feel the best they can lead with is a negative opinion. Hope you're entertained by your sacrosanct thoughts. Always easier to kick a man when he's already down. If that's too complicated, it means you -and your denigrating remarks- suck.
I don't see any reason to bash over this. He slid out and got some bad luck in what followed. I do hope he is back out there....AND healthy (not just back out there) soon. Healthy is the more important thing. I hate these head injuries and it is never a good thing. The race report on his own site says he has a concussion. He needs to be serious about this, as this would be about the 8th that we know of from races we watched. Heal up James!
This wasnt a crash from a guy doing something dumb or silly.. this was a crash caused partly by a very slick track.. Alot of guys had problems there, I was there and never have I seen so many guys just push the front end out in practice.. And like BKR said, he had some bad luck from a guy from behind. It would be different if this was some guy making a silly move, but this was just a racing crash on a very slick track. And lets hope its not a serious injury, especially to his head. That isnt something to joke about. I have seen it first hand with my son from a snowboarding crash, that was so violent it busted his helmet..Its nothing to play with for sure.
Ben Townley to ride for Two Two, go the kiwis
Stay home and convince everyone that you are the fastest man on the planet but you just can't get a break. Milk that lie for everything it's worth and rake in more cash for not racing. You are going to get your ass handed to you if you show up for motocross so start working on your excuse for not racing the nationals.
@kflorida you forgot the other two kk's......looked like a combination of slick track , purehellis, and throttle....hope all are back next week. I'm sorry I don't enjoy derogatory comments about ANY rider who is injured.
Glad to see my fellow Vet Racers weigh in on this , with some common sense , and concern , From the comments I have read so far ,James seems to have a pretty high aproval rating, Yeah The ocasional Moron makes a Idiotic mindless statement , just to be mean , but the truth is all of these guys deserve our concern for injurys ... Its easy to be a bully behind a keyboard. I am a fan of the sport , and every rider out there !
ahhh come on!! Moto cross is about riding to the absolute limit. When theres only you and another guy called Carmicahel the chances of crashing are low.
2012 update, there are now 6,7 maybe more guys that can ride within the speed zone of Villapoto, Reed, Dungy, Weimer and Stewart!
You people that criticize anyone for a crash are not moto cross people. GEt your lame ass comments off moto cross feed back and go and join a neo nazi hate group. Thats where you losers belong!
As for all you ama guys who race. I love that time. I look forward to the race each week, back here in new Zealand. Keep up the entertainment racers. You guys are so underpaid and underappreciated. Golf players get how much money for bashing a ball with a stick!!! That s a joke. James should of got a million dollars for his crash and reed should ve got 10 mill for his.
That stuff is priceless.
I agree with the vet guys here, lay off the guy for gods sake.
ANYONE who has EVER ridden a MX bike in a race knows that shit happens. The fact it happens so little to these guys who are travelling at light speed is amazing.
Go away and leave this site to sensible RIDERS or compassionate fans of the sport who understand the expertise and commitment anyone who has raced MX/SX at a high level has.
PS Go Townley!!!
the only thing he did wrong....was get a bad start........which is what, he has been doing.....bad start's = BAD THING'S!
biker 143 you must be watching the flat track race or something. To say that JS7 never got touched by a bike when he was down. He got plowed by the #48 RMZ450 real good and thats why he is sore.HINT always tivo the races this way you can go back and play in slow mo for clarity.
I agree whole heatedly with CRFKiwi. It's just racing. He's basically in the top 5 fastest guys in the world and people here are trying to give him advice. His tire spun before a jump, he crossed over the track and got plowed. Simple as that. That happens about once or twice a night, the only thing is; if it happen to a 11-20th guy nobody pays attention. But if it's JS7, people try to say he's useless. At least he's still racing, unlike 38, 5, and 22. I'm not even a fan of Stewart, but the guy is insanely fast and talented. Last week he was hero and now a zero, but he's still the same guy that when you watch him ride in person, you just shake your head in disbelief.
He makes it hard to be a fan. I love the fact that he came up and took the 125 class to a new level. Even against 250f's. Then, Raced with some good results against RC at times. But the fame and $$$$$ seems to have taken the desire to reach for the top away. Others, RD, RV, CR, kept there eye on the ball. Now JS doesn't understand why he can't just twist the throttle and win. Those days are gone. Pull your head out of your butt. Every time you ring the bell under the helmet, you lose a little. Also, there are guys coming up that don't know how good you where 5 years ago, and don't care. Get it together before your looking back on your racing career and saying, "Remember when".
James Stewart is a pioneer in the sport we know as motocross and supercross!
Don't believe me? How common was the "scrub" before he rode pro? I think it may have even been call the "Buuba Scrub" after it's inception. If you "scrub" when you ride, then you are directly or indirectly mimmicking his style.
James could die racing and there would be bull$hit comments about how "it was totally his fault!" People on this very forum were bashing him not a week after his mechanic passed. Do you think it only took him a week to heal from the loss of a friends life?
To all the haters, ask yourself this.......Would you rather James be racing right now or not? The guy changed the way we ride. He was the ONLY rider to smoke every 250F in the field on a 125 2-stroke. He stuck with the 125 two stroke until the bitter end, even when given the option. The only complaint I have about his as an athlete was deciding to skip the outdoors.
James Stewart is first and foremost a human being, and I will be a fan even if he crashes in every race for the rest of his career.
Don't know about everyone else, but I was feeling the pain when the zook plowed into James. It looked like the only thing stopping the forward motion of that bike was James body. He must be hurting.
People on this board giving Bubba riding tips. That's pretty funny. I'm sure this is the first place he looks when he's struggling, right after consulting Wesley Snipes for tax advice.
I really don't like all of the crashes and injuries we have been seeing. So many riders getting hurt they should stand up and make something happen.
I still am thinking the bikes are not safe as they could be. To heavy and to much power. The 500 cc 2 strokes didn't work out very good on Supercross tracks so why do they think 450 4 stroke with 55 hp and heavier is any better.
@ride111mph
Interesting point. However, I don't think the 450's are to blame. They are faster but somehow "safer" than the 500 2-strokes on a supercross track- partly due to a broader engine power band and much better suspension that offset the increase in weight.
What is not safe though, is a rider willing to take more risks! I believe that's what is happening this year. The stakes are high and the competition is fierce thus MORE riders are riding VERY close to the edge.
... and that's why SX/MX is the best motorsport show on earth!
I have to confess, I do not understand the reasoning behind insulting riders. What they do in their personal life is their business. If they do not win, they eventually suffer the consequences in their earnings. If they behave poorly in their personal life, they also suffer the consequences financially/personally.
To openly insult riders on this forum is just strange, particularly among “fans” of the sport. I think history and politics has proven time and again the people who cast the most stones and throw them hardest generally have the most to hide themselves.
P.S. I applaud Stewart for being an innovator in the sport and keeping RC from just walking through races. The guy is unbelievable on a track and watching him in the 125 class was a sight to behold. Oh yeah, he also won Daytona a week ago.
What I saw was JS lost traction and his bike moved across the track where KW had already committed to the line and hit JS as he was falling over. I think KW did his best to prevent a harder hit and the rider behind him didn't see what was going to happen through KW bike and body. Just a mistake. JS and the rest of the guys are the best in the world, and a simple mistake like loosing traction happens to all of them from time to time. At night the waters comes to the top of the soil and makes it slickery.
I want to see a great battle throughout the season and with so many riders hurt we have to look father back to see the racing.
Looks to me like RV has this one in the bag as long as he stays healthy. He could DNF two races and still win the championship. He could even drop back and do a race on a 250 just for fun.
Yeah JS7 is always praised for his speed unlike anyone else in the sport. Too bad he can't keep it on 2 wheels anymore.
Lost his touch...? or just feeling the pressure of his "end of career" push?
He is talented, no doubt, but I think it was his smug attitude and arrogance that pushed fans away.
I know that's what did it for me.
K-Dub and Jeremy McGrath were... are still class acts. No excuses. And I think we're seeing another group of riders that will carry that same respect from the media and fans: Villapotto, Dungey, Canard. They are the future of this sport... and it looks brighter.
Jonr290, I totally agree, I really wish posters on here would grow up and stop the insults. This forum is a great way for us fans to bench race and coment and even gripe. Its great to read all the posts that are constructive and rooting for a rider. But all the insults and name calling to other posters and riders is a huge turnoff.
I fear for JS well being and wish him the best, and wish like most true fans he could figure out how to stay off the ground.
I was also let down when he quit racing outdoors
Will someone please tell KDub's mechanic to set his bike up to blitz Yamaha's....are you kidding 2 years in a row....
@JonR290. I don't get bagging on riders either. I think there's a lot of jealousy. There's a lot of guys that make, or have made, good money in the sport, but $ seems to be brought up more about Stewart than anybody else. I've never watched his reality show, or any reality show, so that has no effect on my opinion.
Watching him scream his 125 up and down the hills of Millville is something I'll always remember.
You all suck, kick a guy when he's down. You haters need to get a life, instead of talk'in shit all the time. If JS sucks so bad why are you here talking about it and not racing yourselves. Cause you can't. Week in and out, all this negativity. If JS was to walk away from the sport right now, you all would say he was a loser. Why put it all on the line for this crap? Just saying
Bad start, got squirly, tried to save it and crashed is what I saw. The same thing every other rider would do in that situation. Get through the supercross season in one piece and go out and give your best in the outdoors. If your name is Mike Alessi or James Stewart your smoked on this site no matter what. Admit it, your watching these guys week in and week out where ever they are on the track. There exciting and good for our sport. Now go buy a dirt bike and go down to a race track on a wednesday and ride around. Maybe then you will give credit to just how amazing these riders are. Critisizim is fine but some of the low life B/S cheapshots on here make you look pathetic.
Dang it!! I just got dumber from reading this page...
You retards are at it again.
It's simple folks...Stewart's an idiot rider and is gone to keep hurting other riders if the AMA dont bench him!!!!!!!!!!!!! He can come up with all his foolish excuses he can think of, but it wont change a thing...!
Amen Bean!!!!....Alessi is still an ass-whipe!!! HAHAHAA
All you punks out there give stewart a break! I just heard that he is pregnant and it wasn't me because I'm fixed! congratulations james! oh yes, your child's name is splendid "Sir Ryan Villopoto Stewart" just fabulous and long live Sir Ryan V.S. King of supercross!!
It's easy to bash athletes on your key board, but JS7, MC2, RC4, CR22 even Ricky Johnson and the Mike Larocco and the list goes on... have all had times in their racing careers where they had issues or streak of bad luck one time or another, Some were hated more than others but all of them have contributed to the great sport that we enjoy today. And for the haters of JS7, it is interesting that you don't like the guy, but every week he is the first racer you continually talk about. True fans love MX/SX for the sport it is as a whole. All of these guys did something right because we the fans pay to these professionals of the sport do what they do and often time try to emulate their styles. I guarantee you same haters adopted Bubba's scrub those that can anyway! Don't hate, just enjoy the sport for what it is before too long this sport will be electric powered if the enviro-clones have their way!
JS has hurt himself and many others with his wrecks and entering the track without looking. HE has NEVER been a dirty rider, and NEVER cheated. He has always rode clean and raced with great heart, He is a awesome competitor and still tried his hardest even when RC handed his ass to him repeatedly. NEVER put him in the same class as MA who cheats and rides dirty too many times to count. Yes we were all dissapointed when he quit the real mans MX, and he may have let fame get to him. He kept a good attitude when CR was on his case (unjustly), he kept a good attitude when PIGS got racest toward him. I am not a particular fan of his but have watched him from day one and his Dad is great, his brother has yet to prove who he is. I get sick of the jerks that continually degrade him and keep bringing up and every mistake hes ever made.
I say he is a true sportsman and a great racer who has NEVER been a whiner,
@GeorgeB, LOL! Short, simple, yet spot on.
@highliner5 1. You should definitely consider a career in literature.
2. RV..."King of SX"? What about that Jerry Giraffe guy with the "nic nocs"? In the 90s he dominated indoor dirt cycle competiton. I even saw him jump 3 dirt hills in a single bound!
3. Your fishsticks are $hit!
@MX Bob >>>>.That was AWESOME!!!! LOL!!!
I'm going with beancanyon and davidl on this one!
BTW beancanyon I like your screen name. A badass place to ride! Hannah country! and how about that down hill......the slide?
funny comments here about some of the best riders the sport has ever had .
