Cosworth’s 250 Lites Race Report
The weekend kicked off with great weather up in the bay area. Oakland Ca. was the fourth stop for the west coast Lites riders. With Cosworth’s Zach Osborne podium finish and Cosworth’s Ryan Sipes heat win last week we were looking forward to Oakland.
The top 10 qualifying finished with Musquin quickest (54.727 seconds), Cosworth’s Zach Osborne (54.821 seconds) second, Tomac (54.923 seconds), Wilson (55.292 seconds), Seely (55.614 seconds), Cosworth’s Ryan Sipes (55.758 seconds) sixth, Jason Anderson (55.811 seconds), Martin Davalos (55.961 seconds) and Cosworth’s Nico Izzi (55.961 seconds) sixth in heat two.
Heat One results were: Wilson first, Cosworth's Zach Osborne second, Davalos third, Anstie fourth, Leib fifth, Cosworth's Ryan Sipes sixth, Rusk seventh, Moss eight and Ingalls ninth.
Heat Two results: Seely first, Tomac second, Laninovich third, Musquin fourth, Friese fifth, Faith sixth, Cosworth's Nico Izzi seventh, Cosworth's Gareth Swanepoel eighth and Baker ninth.
Main Event time! The gate dropped the holeshot went to Rockstar rider Davalos. Wilson, Tomac, and Seely rounded out the top four. Wilson went down hard as did Seely. That put Tomac and Cosworth’s Zach Osborne into second and third, respectively. Tomac caught up to Davalos, and he worked his way around him. Davalos appeared to have a bobble, and Cosworth’s Zach Osborne was there to take the position away.
With Tomac in the lead, Davalos second, Cosworth’s Zach Osborne third, Moss fourth and Cosworth’s Ryan Sipes fifth it looked like it was going to be a good race for the Cosworth crew.
At the halfway point of the race, it was Anderson on a charge. Anderson found himself in second place. He continued to put in some fast laps in, but lost a position to Cosworth’s Zach Osborne while they were going through a section with caution flags waving. As he tried to catch back up to Cosworth’s Zach Osborne, he crashed exiting the whoops.
This let Musquin go by, and the KTM rider quickly started to close the gap on Cosworth’s Zach Osborne. With a couple laps to go before the end of the race, Musquin was able to push his way into second, but by that time, Tomac had increased his gap to about 10 seconds on his lead. That left Tomac with the win Musquin second and Cosworth’s Zach Osborne with another podium and Cosworth’s Ryan Sipes right behind Osborne! Cosworth Nico Izzi had a good finish to with a seventh. Cosworth Gareth Swanepoel unfortunately got caught up is some traffic and finished 15th.
We are extremely happy with the Cosworth performance out there, says MX Product Specialist Donovan Norris. The machines look like they are up to the Cosworth high performing standards. With Zach bike performing in top form, we could only wish that he could finish out the west coast series. We have a commitment with Monster, Yamaha, and Steve Dixon and the MX2 British series and Zach needs some time to prepare. This is the plan and they are sticking with it. We will win over in the British series and maybe next year you will see Zach over here full time.
With Cosworth main factory located the UK and a large facility here in the US, we will continue to bring our customers the best possible components for their high performance needs.
