MXHeaven Race Report: RedBudWednesday, July 6, 2011 | 9:15 AM
Any celebration would have to wait a couple of days to the 4th of July for the Swedes, This was their first visit to Redbud, a track which left them in awe. But they ended the day without any points, which meant that Fredrik Noren had his points streak broken.
As it turned out, Calle Aspegren did not even make it to the start due to injuries from the week before at Thunder Valley and although he made an attempt in qualifying, he had to park his Honda 450F for the day.
On the other hand Fredrik Noren continued his progress and qualified in 17th place.
In the first race, he advanced quickly from a mediocre start, but collided while passing another rider and crashed. Once he got going, he was again in catching up mode, but it was late in the race and he finished 24th.
For the second race the pattern repeated itself. Fredrik was well into points when this time he was slowed by an overheating engine and was forced into the pits where a dislodged radiator hose was found, probably a result from the first race crash. It was quickly fixed but the damage was done and he finished well down the order again, in 31st more precisely.
“Fredrik certainly proved today that he has the speed to race well up the field, but both riders need to work on their starts and consistency”, said Team Manager Stefan Elvin after the race
“Now we have a week off which the team is really looking forward to. We will go back to our Perris, CA camp and use it wisely, preparing and practicing for another awesome race track at Millville, MN.”
