Ryan Hughes was kind enough to let us hang out in his private gym and give everyone some advice on proper training off the bike.

Awesome!!!! Ryno really seems like he knows what hes talkin about. Love these exercise tips!
Ryno is a badass.
Man Ryno is an animal....some young up and comer should hire him as a trainer.
Loved everything he said but not agreeing with the safety of neck braces. Simply an unfounded statement and ridiculous to say they don't do their job. Rest of the video was awesome.
I really like how the video cuts out in the middle of it.
Really good stuff from Ryno. Especially like the focus on the neck exercises. Don't forget RX has a full featured site that focuses on nothing but training. Its all there for you guys to take in and learn how to train smarter. (RacerXVT.com)
I have always liked Ryno. When you think of putting your every ounce of hart and soul into racing you will always think of Ryno pushing his bike up that hill to finish the race and he never quit till he crossed the finish ! He also really got robbed of a 125 outdoor title in his last full season on a KTM when they canceled that race... to bad, That title was his and he really deserved to win it.
Neck Braces do work! With that said racers should use them along with strengthening and stretching exercises for the neck. I wrestled in collage and neck stength an stretching excercises were a daily routine.
I like the swan pushup, gotta try that on my 400 pound wife !
i want to se a vid with aldon baker pushing ryan in the gym !
Ryan Hughes is awesome!
@razermusen- cycling, sure. in the gym, no.
I was one of the first riders than Ryno trained when he first started training people. I doubt that anyone is as fit and as prepared for a crash as the people that Ryno trains. Aldon doesn't have shit on Ryno. We would road bike 45-60 minutes once a week and that was it. I am sure he does even less now with his riders, because riding a road bike doesn't work that many muscles; it's only good for cardio that's not too hard on your body.

Ryno is the man... thanks for the great tips. These will work great for a middle-aged x-motocross old fart trying to get back in shape. Thanks Ryno!
Thanks for the tips Ryno! Going to implement in my routine!!
Glad to see positive comments, even if someone disagrees with what is said. I first trained with him in the beginning of '01, and he definitely has the intensity necessary to keep you focused.
@maxwell "Aldon doesn't have shit on Ryno"
Hahaha yeah, right. RC and RV have really struggled using him.
Looks like Ryno should unlock his hips!!
Awesome workout tips! Would love to see a DVD set from you Ryno, think it would be a great addition to anyone's fitness library.
Racer x did it!!!! We need more videos like this. One of the best motocross videos yet. Really helps out riders. Awesome
i messed up and watched this while eating pizza.i am going to go barf.i am a fat doughy loser. on a real note, thx ryno for the great video.if i had the money id pay you for a month to ride and train.that would be epic.
Great video, thank you Ryan and RacerXonline. I go to the gym daily and sometimes it gets hard to find an exercise thats moto specific that also works for you. Just a small detail to what Ryan said about not being able to use his wrists full movement, I have similiar issues due to past injuries and he is truly right. You must train smarter not harder. Please keep them coming, after watching that video I'll be trying out some of Ryno's supplements.
Ya know, for as much as I griped (like many) about the new Racer-X website..............had no idea what would be incorporated. 3.94 electronics grad, techie myself, friggin site rocks with leading edge training articles like this to articles on the 70's national scene with my teenage idols. I'd have to say this is the biggest improvement on a website (that I use) I have ever seen, incorporating every aspect of using a dirtbike. Awesome job gentlemen.
Pretty surprised he never mentions that these are pretty advanced,so if you can't pick up the weight it probably is not for you. Knee damage is imminent if alignment is not considered, back damage with the "swan" if not warm or strng enough etc, so best you check whether you are up to dealing with these.
what did he call the first exercise? bar launch?
Good tips Ryno! I'm a Kinesiology major and a personal trainer at a local gym, I focus my training around the movements that motocross riders face and these tips Ryno have here are good. Just remember what he says about doing all these moves the correct way, you can injure yourself if you get sloppy on these. Notice how he uses the stability ball and alternating limb movements in most of his exercises? This is what motocrossers need to focus on using when doing resistance training. So if you question what to do in the gym, start by grabing a stability ball, its a tool all motocross riders should incorporate into their workout routines.
I train guys out here on the east coast. I'm always looking for new routines geared towards motocross and this video just helped.. I totally agree with Ryno's training methods...and that video was great.

Ryan has some of the most challenging training methods I've seen in a long time. I raced for 12 years before I endured a horrific injury. I have not raced now for the last 5 years due to complications from my injuries (I had my face ripped open and my head almost twisted off during a race), I know a thing or two about neck injuries now. I have to say that I wish I had conditioned myself better for the crash MORE than I wish I had a neck brace on that day. I am sure that Ryan was trying to make the point that you may minimize the damage by making your body stronger, rather than just throwing on a brace and crossing your fingers. He is a solid and proven professional and the video was a small peek at what knowledge he has gained over the years. Impressive stuff Ryno.
His nickname is Ryno.
What's yours?
