That section right after the first turn could be nuts. The dragon back/gap thing looks like death. GO Dunge, Reed, Deano, Blake! "Perfect track for another JS7 yardsale"...Funny. Maybe Barcia could get in on that action.

Same boring track layout all year long. Go back to past years change it up week to week. Tierd of the start in the middle. Good thing its been great racing in spite of same old tracks.

Looks easy and will be one lined with everyone doing the same obstacles. Small whoop section, hopefully they will be giagantic! otherwise James might actually get his first win in 7 weeks.

Stewie crashes into Villo after both suffer bad start. Canard, Reed and Dungey scrubbin' it hard in a 3 way 15 lap battle. Points race shifts again.

I think they need to start making some gnarly rhythm sections to separate the guys. last years track had an awesome full floor length section where the top guys could go 3, 4, 3. Bring back some big stuff

Dragon back off the first turn could be another Jacksonville where riders are turning and jumping into one another, hopefully not. The 90 sand trap looks fun....Hopefully the triple is not throwing dudes all out of whack like last year. If the riders say its dangerous, fix it this time!!
1.RV - Needs redemption on this track after last year
2.Stewart - If I put him second, he'll prove me wrong and win
3.Canard - 2 in a row is tough this year

I liked it a couple of years ago when they chose some of the riders to design the track(Windham, Pastrana). They should do that again.

Villomoto and Stewart will rail that sand section like they did at Phoenix.....Amazing how fast they hit that sand section....Their outdoor skills really come out on those rolling sandy stand up and pin it obstacles...

Anyone ever race Edwards Air Force base in California?....Awesome sand track!

There will be at least two pile-ups on the first lap. Alessi holeshot. Stewart second on start but goes down twice and has to come back from about eighth. Windham third at start, gets passed by Dungey, but Dungey goes down in the sand. Villopoto in first pile-up, but gets up quick and comes through the pack and just holds Stewart off an the last lap.

I have to congratulate the promoter and the track designer for the following:

1. Saving a lot of money on dirt
2. Making a track out of the fewest yards of dirt humanly possible
3. Making the jumps as small as possible so the children can jump everything
4. Making the whoops as small as possible
5. Continuing the trend of making tracks out of Lego pieces
6. Making the track as exciting as it was last month, last year, last decade, last century
7. Watching bikes get better, but the tracks never get more challenging than they were 30 years ago
8. Watching bicycles jump higher and farther than the best MX and SX racers on Earth
9. Watching skateboarders jump higher and farther than the best MX and SX racers on Earth
10. Watching rollerbladers jump higher and farther than the best MX and SX racers on Earth

Tip: you could save even more money on track construction if you just made it a flat oval. To save even more money, make it a flat circle.

I was at the Dallas supercross, parked my butt in front of that whoop section. I haven't seen guys struggle with whoops like that in a long time. Alot of time was won and lost in those whoops, good to see something challenge the top guys. More of that would be welcome.

As far as this track is concerned, don't count out the quality of the dirt. Dallas was really hard pack and guys without finesse like Bubba had a hard time getting the power to the ground in spots. The quality of the dirt could make this track a nightmare. Anyone know what what the dirt is like in St Louis?? Some soft stuff would give these guys fits.

supercross is a business, I feel that budjets are tighter, and that the track builders are probly doing an great job with what they have to work with. My gripe would be to keep race times around twenty minutes or more for several reasons,to give racers better time to overcome mistakes and bad luck and give the fans more for their money. Arlington was a very challenging track and actually longer lap times than last year. I really wish they would do 20min +2, or compute practice times into a twenty minute race, 50 sec laps means a 24 lap race, 43 sec laps means 28 laps- seems like it would help the fittest athlete to excell also. I really think more focus should be put into more lines, instead of trackes that are very one lined, this is a science in itself

Profile Picture
jairtime wrote: 1:28am April 7, 2011

Supercross is a business, I agree, but the customer comes first.

Why have so many other sports changed and grown all around us, yet Supercross is not showing all of the super skills of super riders? As awesome as all of these pros are, the current SX tracks are extremely tame compared to what the spectators would REALLY want to see, and the kind of tracks I'm talking about aren't tracks that would kill the riders.

I'm talking about tracks that show that these pros can ride tracks that normal motocrossers can only dream of riding.

If the factories are going to be handed the advantage of knowing what the tracks are going to be for the year, then they build a track that mimics that, then I say make the tracks SUPER SPECTACULAR and let the pros practice on THAT and bring something to these sold-out stadiums that will knock people's socks off.

The spectators are supporting the sport. When is the promoter, and that weak, political do-nothing sanctioning body, going to step the game up and take this sport into the 21st century? Don't let Supercross get punked out by skateboarders. Make it SUPER!!!

David L - good comments, might thoughts exactly. or look at other racing. The Indy 500 is 500 miles, Period. It should be dictated by total race length as well as time with shorter tracks having more laps.

Frodad78, the dirt in St. Louis is premo ! Usually silt loam with just the right mix of fine sand and clay.

For all of you who keep yapping about small jumps and 'easy' track layouts that anyone could do, you're crazy! (JAIRTIME) Not sure if you're just watching it from the couch but most of the tracks this year have been gnarly and its evident in the racing we've seen. I can personally guarrantee you that 'normal motocrossers' cant ride these tracks. Instead of downing the layout (which is every week on this thread), we need to push for longer races!

SCOTT wrote: 9:45am April 7, 2011

I guess I really don't understand how everyone can hate on track size and how big the gaps are going to be. People, it's an ANIMATED track map made so you can get a slight idea of what its going to look like there are no measurements or angles or proportions to go off of so just relax and wait until STL supercross before you shit talk.

And to all of you calling out the entire top five finishing order, we cannot even guess the winner so unless you have yourself a real fancy time travelin doohicky shut the hell up! lol

So lets sit back relax and just enjoy the series we are so fortunate we have, and if you think the track looks easy then go beat James, the Ryan's, and Chad. Good luck and god speed.

Yeah sx is a business, and that's why it sucks so much more than real motocross, it's just a show for the Harley guys who have nothing to do on a weekend.

Profile Picture
David Langford wrote: 10:45am April 7, 2011

Dialedn, you are excatly right, I race and have broken twelve bones over the years riding, and love this sport both sx and outdoors. These tracks are really a LOT tougher that 75% of the public knows.
Jairtime, what would you do different with the tracks? I personally don't want to see freestyle, I love racing and ways to improve it are always welcome. The tracks that are one lined irratate me, and I really liked it when they let riders design the tracks 2 years ago. I still say they are doing a excellent job with them for what they have to work with.
As far as racing being a business, it has to be and may it make money off of us and keep getting better, I love it and support it and am not looking for a free ride !

Jamin George wrote: 11:09am April 7, 2011

I agree with Langford longer races 20 minutes plus 2 would make for more interesting racing, and while there at it have the lites due 15 minutes plus 2 it will help them get ready for the step up to the supercross class.
Stop complaining about the tracks!
Best racing in years!

Have you guys walked any of these tracks this year? I have and I will tell you average riders will not like supercross. Oh and the dallas whoops were ridiculousy dangerous. Dallas needs to bring different dirt if you an't work it between races something is wrong. It's no wonder 2 practices got red flagged. I personally think everybody should have equal eguipment to level the field just like other motorsports. This way skill is the decider not how much money you have. The racing would be closer. There is just too much politics in supercross though for that to happen. I do like the idea of having timed races to make up for early race mistakes. See ya at stl.

i for one have enjoyed the tougher track designs this year. it has made for better racing by combining skill with thought. in the most recent years the tracks had gotten easy (except for Daytona) with big rythm sections and small whoops that were almost gone by the SX Mains. the sand pits have been a good addition also. i hope they keep it up and don't give in to those js nut suckers and make them easier just so he can win again. this is the most even the competition has been in decades.

Profile Picture
jairtime wrote: 11:36pm April 7, 2011

Oh well, leave the tracks the same, with the same formula, forever. There's no need to change anything. Maybe SX should be like 1/4 mile drag racing, never changing at all.

If you're going to make all the jumps the same shape and angles every week, mixing and matching the Lego pieces, they might as well build ramps for most of the jumps. It would save a lot of time and dirt work, and ramps don't rut up and get dangerous, they don't develop stutters or lips either. They're perfectly consistent week to week. Hell, even the whoops could be fabricated out of steel, laid down and then rapidly loaded onto an 18 wheeler at the end of the night to be used at all the races. An entire supercross track could be carried on two 18 wheelers (all the jumps and whoops), and it would be nothing to build a the basic track layout out of dirt without having to build any of the jumps and whoops.

Dirt for the basic track, with fabricated ramps and whoops. If you're going to use Legos, do it the smart way. It's idiotic to do all that jump-building and whoop-building dirt work every week, it takes too long and it costs too much.

Take it or leave it. Ramps are better and safer. I remember when I was telling Metzger that ramps are the future and he was concerned that maybe they (the riders) wouldn't be able to deal with ramps. That was funny to me because I had spent a lot of time on ramps and knew he would love them. I told him that ramps are totally consistent every time you use them, they don't develop lips, ruts, stutters etc., you can dial them in perfectly and elevate your game with a perfect and consistent jump shape. History has shown how far riders can develop their skills with ramps. If you say that every track is different, I'll say the track builders keep the jump shapes and final angles remarkably consistent. Those jumps might as well be ramps. Anybody who hasn't spent time on ramps has no idea what I'm talking about, they fear ramps, and they will only say "keep it all dirt" to "keep it pure." Pure B.S.
