Good story. Everyone dreams about running into a deal like that. The second bike I ever owned was a '78 250CR Husky. I installed Boyeseen reeds and that thing had a good wide powerband. Pulled like a tractor, mellow, but I liked it. Good in the woods.
This is one of the bikes I always wanted and never had. What a great story! Wish I could find one like that.
Beautiful Bike! Swedish design and craftsmanship, mmmm!! Like many other kids in 1978, I wanted one of these, but my personal finances dictated that I be on an RM 125 C.
Mad_Mark, that's funny. I bought my Husky when what I really wanted was a RM 125. I couldn't afford to race motocross very often and spent most of my time in the woods. I bought the Husky because it could do both pretty well. It was a year old at the time too. Today I still want a '77 RM125.
Awesome bike, with an even better story behind it. Thanks for the pics. Im only 31yrs old, but this section always makes me want to ride. Even though i ride more modern bikes( id love to own one each of a restored early 90's honda cr 250 and late 80's suzuki 250), this coloum puts the fire under me.
Nice bike! I raced both 125 and 250 Huskys that year. Bulletproof for sure....other than a lot of fork flex and worn clutches, this year was one of my favorite bikes...
32 years later this bike bring back memories of some great riders from Fl., Joyner, Farley, etc... that Couldn't get factory rides because they were from FL.. Not true today though...
Always wanted a Husky to just have in the garage to look at, they're so sano. Hell if it wasn't for the wife, I'd have it in my living room under the big screen! In real terms though, the Husky couldn't touch a RM.
Man, that's a cool bike. I remember racing against Phil Alderton when He owned Husky of Dayton, OH. He later formed Honda/Yam of Troy. We used to bang bars at Winchester Speedway. Also, Mark I raced against John Joyner when I stayed in Fl. during Winter AMA and Warm Up series. These series used to be huge...still big, but not as big as the '70's. Hurricane would come down and race in '78 on a stock YZ and blow the guys away.
I was at St. Petersburg in '78 and rode the 125 class, The Bomber killed us on a stock RM125C. Hannah killed everyone on that stock YZ250, they raffled it off at the end of the 2 nd moto. The bike looked trashed from his Scott plastic boots!
i have this same bike but i'm looking for a new muffler/USFS approved spark arrestor. any suggestions?
