-Dungey was just announced as a nominee for the ESPN ESPY Awards.
Brea, Calif. – Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Ryan Dungey added yet another overall win to his ever-expanding list of achievements at last week's Budds Creek round of the 2010 AMA Pro Motocross Championship, and is now looking to repeat that success at the upcoming Thunder Valley National in Lakewood, Colorado, on Saturday. The 2010 AMA/FIM Supercross Champion has been on a roll since the Freestone event in Texas, winning five of the last six motos aboard his RM-Z450, and finishing on the podium in every moto since the season opener at Hangtown.
Dungey demonstrated his commitment to winning the championship at Budds Creek last weekend. During moto 1, his goggles were rendered useless, and he was forced to toss them aside. Rather than pull aside or slow his pace, Ryan continued to charge ahead and press the attack. His efforts resulted in a podium finish that helped give him the overall win. Ryan's singular devotion to racing and the power of the 2010 Suzuki RM-Z450 have proven to be a tough combination to beat so far this season.
Ryan isn’t the only Suzuki rider that has been on the gas this year. Matt Moss showed the racing world that he is fully capable of running at the front of the pack when he spent some time in second place during Moto 2 of the High Point National. Matt is in his first year of racing in America and his first year aboard the championship-winning RM-Z450, and has been putting in some fast laps. Look for Matt to turn in even faster lap times as the season progresses.
In addition to the exciting weekend of racing on tap, Dungey also got some thrilling news from ESPN. He has been nominated for the 2010 ESPN ESPY Awards in the "Best Male Action Sports Athlete" category, and is the only motocrosser to be nominated in the category. His nod is due to his phenomenal 2010 Supercross Championship as well as his strong start to the AMA Motocross series. The award will be determined by fan votes at www.espys.tv and www.facebook.com/ESPN from now until July 10.
The Thunder Valley National will be broadcast on SPEED channel with the 450 class on at 11:00 p.m. EST Saturday night, and the 250 class on at 12:00 p.m. EST on Sunday.
