MCRMX Race Report: Daytona
March 9, 2010 7:34pm
Spokane, Wash. – MotoConcepts Racing is coming off another successful weekend of AMA Supercross racing, again placing multiple riders inside the top ten overall. In the 250 and 450 class, the MotoConcepts Yamaha’s were the first blue bikes to cross the finish line. MotoConcepts Racing now has three consecutive races where at least one of their riders was the top finishing Yamaha (Indy – Sipes 4th, Atl. – Friese 6th, Daytona – Sipes 6th, Chisholm 8th).
“It just proves that running a successful race team is not a sprint but a marathon and the MotoConcepts Racing team continues to be the leading Yamaha team from week to week with consistency and perseverance,” stated Team Owner Mike Genova. “I am very proud of all our management, mechanics, and racers and look forward to more and continued success.”
The racing started in the 250 class where Ryan Sipes continued his string of impressive heat race finishes with third in heat one. The Kentucky native was looking to rebound after a tough week in Atlanta. He did just that in the Daytona main event and ran up front the entire race, finishing 6th overall. After three rounds of East coast 250 racing, Sipes is sitting in 6th place overall for the series.
On the other MotoConcepts Yamaha, in the 250 class, was second year pro Vince Friese. After placing 6th overall in Atlanta the week before, number 61 was looking to stay in the top ten and just missed that goal by finishing 11th overall. The Missouri native is off to a great start to the 2010 race season and resides in the series top ten overall, holding down the 9th spot. With only one point separating him from 8th overall, as the teams travel north for round four in Toronto, Canada, Friese will look to continue his assault on the top ten.
In the 450 class, Kyle Chisholm celebrated Daytona Bike week in style with the best Supercross performance of his career. After a great start in the first heat race, Chisholm found himself riding comfortably in second place behind Grant Langston. A stall by Langston moved Chisholm to first where he led for a number of laps before giving up the lead to point’s leader Ryan Dungey. After his solid second place heat race finish, Chisholm continued his momentum to the main, where another solid start put him in sixth place. The Florida native rode aggressive all night and came home in 8th place. Chisholm finds himself solidly in the top ten overall for the 450 Supercross series in 9th place. What is equally impressive is that number 55 has accomplished his results after missing Anaheim 1 while racing in Germany.
