Michigan Motocross Grand Prix Draws Near
Millington, MI – Less than a week away, the much anticipated Great Lakes Grand Prix (GLGP) will take place on October 10th and 11th, 2009 when motocross and woods racers from around the Midwest descend on the 1,100 acre Otsego Club and Resort in Gaylord, Michigan.
While traditionally known for its world-class golf course and signature Ryan Neptune snowboard terrain park, the 70 year old resort (owned and operated by Osprey s.a. ltd.) is graciously hosting hundreds of friends and families for a weekend of racing, special events, and live evening entertainment. “We’re extremely excited about the GLGP and can’t wait to see all the great racing between the motocrossers and the woods racers go down”, says motocross racer and Osprey C.O.O. Jason Biber. Jason also went on to say that the $5000 pro purse should make for some great racing as well. The 3.5 mile GLGP track has been built into the side of one of the highest elevation changes in Michigan, providing a variety of large off cambers, uphill climbs, and natural rolling obstacles – perfect for an old-school grand prix event. Furthermore, between the main lodge at the top of the ridge, a ski lift crossing over the track, and the river cabin at the base of the valley, spectators will have many opportunities to watch the racing from both comfortable and exciting vantage points. “Between the beautiful landscape and amazing amenities, it’s tough to find a motocross facility as cool as this”, says event promoter Patrick Grzebinski.
Special events for the weekend will culminate in a post-race festival called the “Get Bombed” party on Saturday evening. Events will include a $500 “Big Wheel Bomb” race down the Olympic sized half-pipe run just outside the main lodge, along with a 30 foot mini-bowl skateboard jam hosted by World Boardercross Champion Ryan Neptune, as well as a “Water Balloon Bomb” fundraiser event to benefit fallen rider Justin Weeks and his recovery effort. T-shirts will also be sold by Justin’s friends to raise money as well. Lastly, the “Get Bombed” festival will end at the main lodge with a night of spirits, live music and entertainment.
