Ogden MX Facility Needs Your Support

I know that this will not be of interest to all of you, but if you know someone who it will forward it to them.

As many of you may know, there is an effort underway by a local individual (Brett Satterthwaite), to build a world class indoor MX facility in the Ogden area (West Weber).  It is being met with some resistance and a show of support from the local MX community would go a long way to providing additional riding opportunities in our area.  The details of the facility and a public hearing to discuss the facility, are contained in the e-mail below:

16 acre site (have lease option on additional 14 acres)
90,000 SF total building
73,000 SF riding area
35' Minimum ceiling height at edge of building
4,500 SF indoor pit area
6,000 SF spectator seating area
5,500 SF Lounge, restrooms, concessions, check in, offices
600 SF Merchandise store

The facility is designed for indoor motocross events year round.  To provide the best riding environment throughout the year the facility will include ventilation to remove exhaust fumes, heating for winter months and evaporative cooling units for summer months.

We will offer open practices during the weekdays, times will be determined based on rider demand.  We plan on being open everyday, with the hours of 7 am to 9 pm, rider turnout will dictate if these times are feasible.  When large rider turnout occurs practices will be split into bike size and riding ability to accommodate all riders.  We will hold several race events throughout the year primarily during the winter months.  With Edgeplex MX we are no longer bound by seasons or daylight.   This is a completely new concept for this area; we are looking forward to hearing your ideas and comments.

We go before the Weber County Planning Commission October 14, 2008, at 4:30 pm for our Conditional Use Permit.  One of the conditions of this permit is to demonstrate that the proposed use is a benefit to the surrounding community.  At the last meeting there were several residents that lived near (if over a mile away is near) the facility that voiced their opposition, the commission came away with the feeling that this would not be a benefit to the community.  We are hoping to get those that would support a facility as this to voice their support by either emailing the commission or if time permits attending the planning commission meeting.
