Tamer Kawasaki Hangtown Race Report
The Maestrocard - Leo Vince - Fly - Bikebandit - Kawasaki team rolled into Hangtown for the opening round of the AMA Motocross Championship series presented by FMF with sole rider Cole Siebler, as his teammate Ronny Jackson, was not entered for this event.
The new format features two practice sessions on Saturday with the top 40 fastest riders moving on to the big show on Sunday and 41st on back head home. On Sunday, your practice time was used for your gate pick only.
Cole would ride the teams Kawasaki KX450F for the very first time on Saturday posting the 20th fastest time in the field of 117 riders ensuring Cole a spot in the Fast 40 rider field for Sunday.
After his initial ride, the bike was in the ballpark and with the changes the team made Saturday evening, the bike was prepped for Sunday.
And the changes worked. Siebler posted the 9th fastest lap time in practice on Sunday, the first non-factory rider in timing, improving his Saturday best lap time by more than 5 seconds.
As the gate dropped for moto 1, Siebler rounded turn one in 35th position and posted 28th position at the completion of lap one. Cole charged to 13th at the checkers and was knocking on the door of 12th and 11th positions. "This first moto ride was impressive. This kid showed up at Hangtown, after getting off his Honda, and adapted to the Kawasaki nicely and then showed his commitment to conditioning by riding to an incredible 13th moto 1 score, I am very proud of him."
In moto 2, Siebler would find himself sampling the soil of Hangtown. While running 16th, Siebler and Shawn Skinner collided in the air with Siebler getting the bad end of the deal. Cole remounted in 37th and raced his way back to 25th at the checkers. With both moto efforts, Cole left Hangtown with a 17th overall enabling him to practice at Mt. Morris with the top 20 elite riders in motocross.
"All in all, we hit our goals. We wanted to leave with a top 20 for practice reasons and wanted Cole to be comfortable with his initial ride on his Maestrocard - Leo Vince - Fly - Bikebandit backed Kawasaki KX450F. He was not injured in the crash and he will now have a week with his KXF before heading to Mt. Morris for round 2."
I have pictures of the team bikes and they will be here Wednesday. They look awesome. The new web site will be done shortly with the new sponsors and team personnel.
