Reason For Being

There’s long been debate over who has the oldest continuously running pro motocross track in America. AMA Pro Motocross began in 1972, and Unadilla is the one track on the schedule today that was on that original tour. But in 1974 and ’75, promoters Ward and Peg Robinson didn’t have a national, electing to stick with a Trans-AMA event like they’d been running since 1970, before the nationals even started. They got back on the AMA schedule in ’75 and ’76, then chose to run the U.S. 250cc Grand Prix of Motocross from 1977 through ’92 (as you’ll read about in my “Fort Unadilla” feature on page 84). They were also the first U.S. track to host the coveted FIM Motocross of Nations, the Olympics of motocross. They got back on the AMA schedule in 1989 and had been there ever since.
