The fifth, and second-to-last, WMX race is here. Last weekend in New York, it was another 1-1 weekend for Lachlan Turner. The field gave her competition but Turner rose to the top, like she has the previous two seasons. Now with just this weekend and next weekend's race remaining, it's crunch time. Can the field stop Turner or will she make one final push her so next weekend is a little easier?

An update to the schedule is noted below: No morning first qualifying session, just one qualifying session at noon Eastern then the first moto will race at 2 p.m. Eastern. Follow along here, and on our social media platforms, for more updates.

First Qualifying Session

The WMX field took to the first session and it was Charli Cannon who took the top time in qualifying. Lachlan Turner's fast lap was close behind, then Mayla Herrick's 2:12 was over four seconds back. The top two seem to have this track dialed in from the get go but we will see what happens when the first moto get underway here shortly!

One thing to consider is that of the top five in this first session, four of them (except for Herrick) raced this track at least once, as this venue hosted the '25 Pro Motocross/WMX finale. Herrick is showing her ability to adjust quickly though to both unfamiliar tracks AND the pro rankings of WMX.

First Moto

The MWX field took to their respective gates but as the 30-second board went up, Jordan Jarvis had bike issues and he YZ250F as not starting! The #301 machine pulled back from her gate as Jarvis and her crew tried to get it fired. The gate dropped and Jarvis was still working on bump starting her bike as the field roared down the starting straight. As they exited the first turn, it was the #10 machine of Taylah McCutcheon with the early lead! McCutcheon repeated that start she had last weekend in New York as the lead two in the championship, Lachlan Turner and Charli Cannon were forced to get to work.

McCutcheon led GNCC competitor Tayla Jones, Hailey Vassallo, Mikayla Nielsen, Mayla Herrick, and Hannah Hodges, as Cannon was 12th and Turner was 15th! The top two in the title fight found one another as they moved forward. Turner even almost went down early in the race when Hannah Hodges went down and bumped into Turner while falling. Turner got pushed off to the side of the track but managed to keep her balance and she stayed up. And out front, McCutcheon quickly came under pressure from three Honda riders! Nielsen, Herrick, and Cannon were all going after McCutcheon’s lead. For about three laps we had a ton of back and forth passing and suddenly, Turner was right there in the battle as well.

Turner quickly joined the party and she got by Cannon to take over second! Cannon fought back and retook second place! Turner's pressure pushed their battle up to Nielsen. Then, Nielsen and Cannon almost made contact in the infield tabletop! Turner took advantage to retake second, but then a handful of sections later and Cannon made a two-for-one pass to take over the lead doing down the hill into the turn before the Big Gulp jump! It was an epic battle out front! From there, Turner started to reeeeeeally start putting down heaters with a fully clear track. Cannon's 2:07.180 was the fastest lap of the race, but Turner put in a 2:07.319—her fastest lap of the race, on the fourth lap when she got into the lead. Then, once Turner got into the lead, she put in an even faster lap! Turner clocked in a 2:04.313 out front as Cannon kept fighting with a 2:06.927 of her own for a new personal fast lap.

Somewhere in the thick of all the battles, Herrick went down and dropped a handful of positions. She would run into more trouble as she encountered bike problems, joining Jarvis with a mechanical DNF of her own.

Herrick’s misfortunes bumped Piper Bell up to seventh behind Lily-Ann Pettus. Then, Pettus and Nanami Honda went down while battling for fifth. The two tangled bars up in the top section of the track after passing the podium in the infield. That dropped them back and promoted Bell up to fifth. Now into the top ten herself was newly crowned WMX Canadian Champion Jamie Astudillo, who was running seventh.

Turner hung on to take the first moto win of the weekend as Cannon came through second, just 4.464 seconds back. Nielsen finished third as McCutcheon and Bell rounded out the top five.

Second Moto (Saturday)

WMX moto two and it was Mikayla Nielsen with the holeshot with Lachlan Turner and Charli Cannon close behind. Moto one holeshot winner Taylah McCutcheon was on the ground in the first turn with GNCC rider Brandy Richards. Both Turner and Cannon made quick work of Nielsen on the first lap. Mayla Herrick was running fourth behind Nielsen until she went down in the turn after the triple step up handing the position over to Jordan Jarvis who had bike issues in the first moto. Eventually Herrick closed up to the rear of Jarvis and made the pass with only a few turns to go, got hung up with a lapper, Jarvis came back and Herrick went down. Turner came in for the win, winning by her largest margin all year, over 14 seconds.
