Husqvarna Mobility Launches Brand-New, Street-Legal, Electric Offroad Motorcycle: Introducing the 2025 Pioneer
The following press release is from Husqvarna Mobility:
Husqvarna Mobility Pioneer 2025
Husqvarna Mobility launched a brand-new, street-legal, electric offroad motorcycle – the Pioneer. This exciting new model is designed for customers who enjoy recreational dual-sport riding while also offering ease of maintenance. A reduced overall size ensures the Pioneer offers nimble handling and is easy to ride.
The Pioneer is a premium, quiet, and easy-to-maintain offroad-focused dual-sport motorcycle. It is also highly versatile, allowing riders to easily explore outdoor spaces, as well as enjoying a new way to commute. The Pioneer is a completely new model, developed in-house by Husqvarna Mobility.
Husqvarna is entering this segment to underline the brand’s commitment to electric mobility. If the Pioneer is to be used exclusively offroad, the indicators, horn, and number plate holder can be easily removed.
Technical highlights:
- 11 kW nominal power
- 2 kW peak power
- 59 mph (95 km/h) top speed
- 21”/18” wheels
- 5 kWh battery capacity
- Battery removal (10 minutes with tools)
- Charging time (0-100%) with included 660 W charger ~ 8h
- Charging time (0-100%) with optional 3.3 kW power charger ~ 2h
- Weight – 246 lb (112 kg)
Electric motor
The Pioneer features an in-house-developed electric power pack that will be shared with more Husqvarna models in the upcoming years.
The 11 kW motor provides a peak power of 19.2 kW with 37.6 Nm of torque. The electric motor means there is one permanent drive, which eliminates the need for a clutch or gearbox, resulting in a simple and uncomplicated riding experience. This design allows dual-sport riders and outdoor enthusiasts to focus on their riding, choose the perfect line to easily overcome obstacles, and not have to worry about keeping an engine running.
The motor controller is integrated and guarantees an instant but controllable power delivery. This ensures a more efficient energy consumption, which leads into longer riding time and no thermal overheating.
Battery
The battery is a Li-Ion battery and has proven its robustness and power through thousands of test miles in the toughest conditions.
The MX50 battery can be removed within 10 minutes and replaced with a fully charged spare to allow for continued riding. The weight of the battery is approximately 63.9 lb (29 kg).
- Number of recharges until an 80% State of Health (SoH) > 1,000
- Range of riding time – Based on enduro-style riding > two-three hours
- World Motorcycle Test Cycle (WMTC) range – 85 miles (137 kilometers)
In all Li-Ion battery powered vehicles and motorcycles, the battery capacity and specified range reduces with time, use, and cumulative charge and discharge cycles.
Battery specifications:
- Type – Li-Ion
- 5 kWh capacity
- Voltage around 50 V nominal
All units are rated IP67 and therefore are waterproof.
Charger
A 100% recharge using the included 660 W charger can be achieved in under eight hours with a standard household supply. A 20%-80% charge takes under four hours.
Using the optional power charger (3.3 kW) a full battery charge can be done below 2 hours. (3.3 kW charger only arriving in summer 2025)
Multi-Functional Instrument and HMI
The Pioneer features an LCD Dashboard – a component utilized on many offroad motorcycles. To reduce the reading time required by the rider and to improve the riding experience, the display is limited to only key information. Options available include State of Charge, Ride Mode and Recuperation Level, Clock, Trip, Accumulated Run Time, and the Odometer. These can be toggled through and selected by pressing one of the two buttons on the dashboard.
There are three pre-defined ride modes available that can be selected by using the up button on the ergonomic, four-button switch cube. Each ride mode is dedicated for specific riding scenarios with the torque and power increasing with each setting. The third option provides unlimited performance. In addition, the recuperation can be set in three steps – off, mid, or high. Recuperation also changes engine braking.
On the dashboard, the ride and recuperation modes are only shown by using the digits from 1-3. Traction Control can be engaged alongside the ride modes and can be activated/deactivated via the four-button switch cube on the left side of the handlebar. The Traction Control level is already fine-tuned for each ride mode.
Safety features
The Pioneer is fitted with a Rollover Sensor (ROS), which cuts the power after a crash or tip over.
A Rollover Sensor is a safety mechanism installed on the Pioneer to detect when the machine tips or rolls over. The sensor measures the inclination and, if necessary, sends a signal to the control unit to stop the power delivery.
Chassis
To fulfil the needs of an electric powered offroad motorcycle, the whole chassis has been developed specifically for the Pioneer from the ground up. The geometry is optimized to position the battery and motor in the ideal center of gravity to enhance overall handling. The overall weight of the Pioneer is 246.9 lb (112 kg) with the seat height set at 35.8 in (910 mm).
Frame
The chromium-molybdenum steel frame was developed to meet various targets. Both the motor and battery are load-bearing components to reduce the weight of the frame and play a vital role in the flex characteristics of the machine. The frame design also contributes to the unrestrictive ergonomics, which makes the Pioneer easy and comfortable to ride.
The subframe is engineered using two materials, aluminum and glass-fiber reinforced nylon, which when combined keep overall weight to a minimum.
Front suspension
The WP XACT suspension features a 43 mm split fork design that uses a capsuled air spring in the left leg and an oil damping system in the right leg. The forks offer 250 mm of travel and advanced damping characteristics while being significantly lighter than conventional spring forks. Preload adjustment is made easy thanks to the single air pressure valve and each Pioneer is supplied with an air pump for each rider to create a personalized setting. Further customization is assured by the easy access clickers that can be used to fine-tune the compression and rebound settings.
Rear suspension
The compact, WP XPLOR PDS (Progressive Damping System) shock offers 240 mm of travel and features a main piston designed to optimize oil flow. This design ensures consistent damping performance, even across the roughest terrain. The overall weight of the WP shock is just 7 lb (3.18 kg).
The WP XPLOR PDS rear shock features fully hand-adjustable clickers, allowing for quick and easy setting changes without needing to use tools. High and low speed compression can be adjusted at the top of the shock with rebound adjusted on the bottom. The preload can also be set to suit the weight of the rider by opening the securing ring with an Allen key and tightening or loosening the rear shock spring accordingly.
With no linkage system, the Pioneer is easy to maintain as there are far fewer moving parts involved with the rear suspension.
Brakes
With no clutch on the Pioneer, the rear brake is operated by a lever on the left side of the ProTaper handlebars. This concept allows for a better feeling of the rear brake. Both the front and rear hydraulic systems are made by Braktec and in combination with the 260 mm front disc and 220 mm rear disc, confidence-inspiring braking performance is assured.
Wheels
The Pioneer wheels are light, strong, and stylish, thanks to the black-anodized rims. The rear wheel is 18” with the front wheel 21”, and both are fitted with medium compound Michelin Enduro tires for durability and maximum grip on a wide variety of surfaces. The rear tire size is 120/90-18 while the front is 90/90-21.
Handlebars
Mirroring the full-size motocross and enduro models, the Pioneer features handlebars made by world-renowned manufacturer, ProTaper. The bend is designed for superior comfort while offering class-leading strength and fatigue resistance at the lowest possible weight.
Graphics
To set the Pioneer apart from all other Husqvarna machines, it features a distinctive color scheme and graphics. For maximum durability, the graphics are applied using an in-mold process to ensure a long-lasting finish.
