The MXB Shocker Motocrossboard Combines Snowboarding and Motorcycling in an Environmentally Friendly Package

Duluth, GA — Performance Concepts, Inc. releases the 2011 MXB Shocker motocrossboard. It combines the freedom of snowboarding with the off-road capability of a motorcycle. It’s surprisingly easy to ride yet capable of over 35 mph off-road.  It’s quiet, has no emissions and uses a few cents of electricity per hour. Weighing only 74lbs, it treads lightly.

Ridden like a snowboard, and having only 2 wheels, motocrossboards are steered hands free. Steering is achieved by a unique caster-like trailing arm design contained within the circumference of the front wheel.  When the board is leaned, the system causes the wheel to steer in the direction of the lean. Similar to turning a snowboard in 8" of powder on a gentle slope, the technique of turning a motocrossboard is easier to learn.

"Its’ easy to learn." says 73 year old PCI test rider, Mr. Earl. He says "I was riding it almost immediately. Once you’re moving, it’s like standing on a boat or bus. Stopping and starting are the only tricky parts. If you can’t ride it, come see me and I’ll show you how." He attests almost any active person can ride a motocrossboard with a little talent and practice. It seems difficult but video of Mr. Earl and other first time riders on the motocrossboard website shows how easy it is.

The 1500 watt, 48 volt brushless motor can produce almost 5 lb/ft of torque at around 43 amps. That’s enough power for over 35mph. However, PCI limits the speed of the MXB shocker to 20mph via gearing and the programmable controller. Throttle, braking and optional binding controls are handheld and connected by flexible cable. A rear disc brake provides speed control.

Front and rear suspension travel of 9 inches is optional. 5 inches is standard. Coil springs over oil and nitrogen filled shocks lend control to front and rear swing arms. The shocks adjustable features include spring rate, pre-load and rebound and compression damping. Test riders weighed up to 290lbs. However, limiting weight to 185 lbs extends the life of the 100% 4130 chromo frame and swing arms.

Binding system options include an intuitive release boot and binding setup for experts. Skilled riders have two intermediate options. These include a set of adjustable hooks riders place their feet under and an intuitive release system used with any shoe. Beginners simply stand on the deck holding an optional flexible handle. The handle allows more convenient starts and stops.

Range averages 18 miles with the standard 48 volt 10 amp hour LiFePO4 battery pack. Battery fully recharges in only 2 hours. Additional 10AH battery pack and regenerative braking options can raise average range to over 40 miles. LiFePO4 batteries have a very long lasting and safe chemistry, not prone to explosion or fire.
Availability begins in mid November of 2010 with a limited release for Christmas delivery starting at $2999.00. For more information visit www.motocrossboard.com/shocker and www.motocrossboard.com.
