Metrakit USA Breaks the Top 10 at the Jr. World MX Championships
(Dardon, France) - Metrakit is the newest minibike manufacturer to hit the United States. The company was founded in 1976 in Barcelona, Spain. Known for their GP 50cc, 85cc and 125cc Bikes in Europe, Metrakit has used this development to design high performing, super fast motocross 50s and 65s minis. Bud Maimone, founder of Cobra Motorcycles, is now the head of Metrakit USA in North Lima, Ohio. Bud will be responsible for development and distributing the minis throughout North and South America. Although the newest Bud Bikes have performed very well in the U.S. it was time to test the 65s at the Jr. World Championships in France. This race is very comparable to Loretta Lynn’s as you will find only the best riders from many countries throughout the world. The biggest difference between the two races is most all the bikes are highly modified at the World Championships. However, Metrakit utilized only stock bikes at the event which is a very hard task when you’re competing against a sea of modified orange rockets.
On August 21st and 22nd, 2010 Brock Papi of McMurry, PA and Jyrie Mitchell of Bermuda teamed up with Metrakit USA to compete in the World Championships on the MKX 65s. Qualifying was based on practice lap times and only the top 40 lap times qualified you for the main event. With over 100 entries, Papi and Mitchell both qualified in top 10 positions on the Metrakits.
The track in France is like no other, consisting of huge up and down hills containing blind downhill double jumps and difficult sandy off camber turns a very long sweeping start and long table tops. The Metrakit 65’s performed above average in these tough conditions with Papi finishing 7th overall riding in the top ten in both moto’s. Papi also with Team USA helped his team win the overall team award for USA. Jake Pinhancos finished 1st and Joey Crown finishing 8th. Mitchell looked like he was headed for a top 5 overall however, with two laps to go and a loose fuel line, ran out of fuel leaving him with a 15th overall position.
The Metrakit machines look to be a winning force in the very near future. This high performing mini’s have already outperformed much of the competition at many national events and with no major mechanical difficulties.
