"Who say ya can’t have your cake and eat it too?"
Merced, CA (photos by www.delorenzophoto.com& Moroz) ~ On August 14th, the Legends & Heroes Team created its own history with the biggest attendance records to the display yet. Thanks to the Robinson Family, the folks from MX sports and John Ayres, the coolest display of motocross history was in one of the highest traffic areas at the track and we were Jammed!
Round number 9 of the 2010 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Rockstar Energy Unadilla National saw the team of the L&H display handle a full schedule for the day. The Professor, Gary Bailey, was on hand and had two scheduled autograph signings. Gary brought copies of his book "Pioneer to Professor" to sign and had his original Greaves on display. A special thanks to Gary and his lovely wife Dianna who came to help out and join all the fans under our display.
Next on the agenda was the Boyesen Engineering Team headed up by none other than Eyvind Boyesen. Evvind came by to chat with the fans and share a few good stories on the 1986 Boyesen link Hannah RM 250 Suzuki that won the USGP at Unadilla in 1986. It was amazing to learn how much technology Mr. Boyesen has developed for the sport. His team continues today, developing cutting edge technologies to make bikes and riders go faster. Joining Eyvind was his son Dag, Ed Brazina, Rich Dombey, Paul Waslin and Tony DeLorenzo all from the Boyesen team. Later in the day the Legends & Heroes Tour honored Eyvand Boyesen with a life time achievement award for his contribution to the sport. The ever gracious announcer Rob Bytis of MX Sports and Alex Moroz of the Legends & Heroes Tour project presented this award to Mr. Boyesen in front of all the fans and the Boyesen Family on the podium. Congratulation to Eyvind Boyesen for receiving the Legends & Heroes Life Time achievement award!
The second year of the 2-Stroke race was on tap at Dilla once again. The Legends & Heroes Team fielded two racers for this year’s event. Dag Boyesen and Paul Waslin of Boyesen Engineering flew under The Legends & Heroes banner for 2010. Dag was on his trusty Yamaha 250 and Paul piloted the Legends & Heroes Tony D. RM 250 Suzuki. This bike was specially prepared with some cool graphics supplied by Rich Dombey from Rich Design. Thanks to Rich for making our bike look "So Fast"!
As the gate dropped, Dag pulled right alongside John "the junk yard dog" Dowd into the first turn. Dag hounded the "dog" in second coming out of turn one following the Champ who got the hole shot. John Ayers Jr. then moved his way up to second and Dag finished in the top 5. Dowd took the win. It was great to see some of the same faces from last year like Ken Napolitano and Carlos Coen compete in this year’s Unadilla 2-Stroker again.
Right after the 2-Stoker race, all the racers came over to the Legends & Heroes display along with the fans to pay tribute to the Jammer. Weinert turned 59 at Dilla on Saturday the 14thand there was a specially prepared cake by Carol Moroz on hand for the Champ. Alongside the Champ was John Dowd, Eyvind Boyesen and the Professor Gary Bailey. The ever gracious Jammer shared a few cool stories and introduced the real Jammer, his son James, who is having fun racing with his new Honda on Dads 2010 race team "Jimmy Weinert Racing". The Jammer is contesting both the amateur and select national outdoor events with his team and is doing an outstanding job in his role as team manager.
We would like to say a special thanks to Bob Bitting from Fayetteville New York. Bob has been instrumental here on the east coast in supporting the operation with his tireless efforts in helping us with the project. Thanks Bob, and thanks to your lovely wife Melissa for letting you come out and play with us!
