March 30, 2010 11:24pm
Jacksonville, Fla. – Before 38,321 fans in his final 450 class race of the 2010 season, Trey Canard took home a 3rd place finish for the fifth week in a row in the twelfth round of the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium.
Canard earned a place on the podium for the Honda Red Bull Racing team for an impressive five weeks in a row during his six week stint in the 450 class. On Saturday, Canard posted 7th place in timed qualifying early in the day, and 4th in the second heat race of the day. In the 20-lap main event, Canard started off in 7th place, but in a similar fashion to his past several performances he worked his way through the field with smooth and aggressive passes. Canard was in 5th place by the mid-point of the race, and 4th by lap 11, where he began the battle for the podium with his GEICO Powersports Honda teammate, veteran rider Kevin Windham. Canard shot past Windham in the last turn with an impressive move for the final podium spot.
A GEICO Powersports Honda West Coast Lites rider for the 2010 season, Canard filled in for the injured Andrew Short in the Supercross class for a total of six races during east coast action. “This opportunity has been so great and I’m so thankful to both the Honda Red Bull Racing and GEICO Powersports Honda teams.” said Canard. “I’ve been working really hard and I think out of all the races I’ve been on the 450 this was the one I felt best about – I’m really happy about that.”
Trey Canard will have a four week break from completion before he returns to battle for the West Lites championship April 24th in Seattle. He maintains second place in overall West Lites class points (121), a position he will defend upon return to Lites competition. Racing only six races in the Supercross class, Canard stands in 12th place in points in the Supercross class with 103 points.
Canard’s 2010 team title and personal sponsors include: American Honda, Red Bull, GEICO Powersports, Factory Connection Racing, Fox Racing, Kicker, and MYPLASH Visa.
